you ever seen videos from John Townsend where he's driving around in a sedan in modern clothes? It looks super weird. Same reason Homer Simpson wears the same clothes in every episode but one, and why the Mythbusters wore white and black in every episode.
@AndromedaeRD7 жыл бұрын
Gosh, Greg, I've never been so hooked on watching how candy was made until I stumbled upon your videos in the suggested section. I can't tell you how many documentaries/"How it's made"s I've watched and was pretty bored halfway through because the narrator didn't seem interested or passionate about what he was talking about... But when I watched your videos on candy making, I was instantly hooked because I could feel the emotion and intrigue in your voice as you explained to us in a very kind way what was going on. The inflection that you use so consistently is something that others need to learn! I want to thank you for being true to your passion and if I'm ever in Tallahassee I'll definitely stop by to see you all. Much love, Rhoadie
@LoftyPursuits7 жыл бұрын
+Andromedae Rhoadamine thank you. It is easy to do for something you love. But I do admit the second story like the weather in candy and this one has been getting harder and harder to come up with.

this was very cool. The wrapping machine looks very advanced for something from the 1920’s. Also it kinda made me chuckle that nearly everything is automated, apart from the bit which pushes the packets into the boxes.. I would have thought this was the easiest bit to automate
@niagarawarrior96235 жыл бұрын
my guess is that its for some level of quality control
@timothycotner34923 жыл бұрын
Also harder than you think. The boxes are stiff and predictable. The bags... not so much
@temporarychannelname86203 жыл бұрын
Both comments are true. Also economics. If it would take you 20 years to pay off a piece of specialized equipment that would automatically do the job when you can just pay someone $13 bucks an hour to do it, you usually just stick with the personnel. Business tend to be pretty steady with what they know works.

Yeah the salt water taffy that I'm used to most definitely has salt in it. No question. My wife has been making taffy lately, too, and every recipe she's tried has at least a little salt, with the better recipes having quite a bit. Taffy can be a bit boring without the salt, in my opinion.
@kursedklown6 жыл бұрын
First, they take the dinglepop and they smooth it out with a bunch of schleem. The schleem is then repurposed for later batches. They take the dinglebop and they push it through the grumbo, where the fleeb is rubbed against it. It's important that the fleeb is rubbed, because the fleeb has all of the fleeb juice. Then a Schlameeh shows up, and he rubs it, and spits on it. They cut the fleeb. There are several hizzards in the way. The blamphs rub against the chumbles, and the klubus and grumbo are shaved away. That leaves you with a regular taffy.

The old school roller is very much like a baler that makes square bales of hay, probably developed around the same time! A comb picks up the row of hay, an auger brings it towards a compressor, which packs it into something like "sheets" of hay, and when there's enough sheets, the machine wraps the bale in twine and spits out a whole square bale of hay into the field, or hay wagon depending on how your machine is optimized. Incredible, how similar such different machines are!
