Thank you sweet lady, I was born in Las Vegas and lived there for 62 years. Spent alot of time climbing in Calico Basin as a kid. There was a spring that flows from a cave and a man living up there that carried water from it to his little home. As a teenager my friends and I used to camp allover Red Rock. Good memories, I ended up retiring to North Carolina and I miss Nevada alot.Iam really happy that I found your channel I check on you regularly thank-you 😚😚😚😚😚

I grow up in Las Vegas. It has changed so much since the 60s, 70s ,80s even the 90s. Bonnie springs is where we went for school field trips Every year till I was in 7th grade. That was in the 70s. It was the best and I loved going. They had a pond by the restaurant It was very nice. And they had 2 Buffalo's. Lots of animals for sure. They had a wild west shot out. Gosh so many wonderful memories of that place.Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Native Americans used to live in Red Rock Canyon, before anyone! There were hieroglyphics and there's even a natural cathedral or amphitheater. "Hidden Falls" are waterfalls that are only there a few months a year, if at all anymore. I have some pictures of the remaining hieroglyphs. Rock climbers destroyed them! Now, they're a casino and houses up there? Ii haven't been there since 1995, but, Red Rock Canyon is very special to Me. I could feel something Spiritual there. There were hand prints of a whole family. Caves where they lived and everything. It's one of My favorite places on Earth too. Thank You for the modern history lesson.

Love this! It’s my home. So glad one of your adventures holds a lot of memories for me. I luckily live 10 min from Red Rock. I take that scenic route to Blue Diamond to just feel free after doing errands. Don’t go to the Albertsons nearby. All the tourists and homeowners nearby clear out the shelves. 1.5 miles down has more selection. Super developed now, but you get the best of both worlds with desolate nature and your home nearby with tons of services. Calico Basin is glorious in the morning. Stayed over at old high school friend’s house. They have the house with wrap around Australian style porch (at least that’s what they told me about that architecture). A group stayed over for NYE and the red rocks on that side are so vivid in the morning sun. Never seen anything like it. Thought it was a good memory to share. Too many stories to share along that canyon. Thank you for the history of the ranch and etc. P.S. The bread pudding dessert at the cafe in Blue Diamond is homemade and scrumptious! Thanks again for all your fun storytelling!

When I lived in Vegas, red rock was just a loop that was free to enter. No gate or entry. Just an open road to travel as you please. Used to hike down cold creek canyon. Someone put goldfish in the pond there. Across the highway was a cave you could go into. It’s a shame that they have built houses up there. Good video. Happy Trials 👍😎

To answer your question keep the red rock area natural. Redevelop the dilapidated sections of the city to a low density with a lot of parks. Surround isolated high rise buildings that have residents with open desert and cultivated desert. Landscape architects can make the redeveloped areas feel like nature. I love desert pines.

@geezerpleasers_OG

The new houses will be immaterial to the water level. In fact, Las Vegas as a whole is immaterial to the water levels. It uses much, much less than 1% of the water that comes out of Lake Mead every year. That water goes to the seven states in the Colorado River Compact, primarily for use in agriculture. When Lake Mead runs dry, the problem won't be that Las Vegas disappears, it will be the food riots from the crash of agriculture in the American southwest as the irrigation water isn't there anymore. California has been using 8 times its allotted amount under the Compact for a long time, but they won't be able to keep draining the lake forever.

Great video. I used to hike in Red Rock back in the late '80s and early 90s. I once follow and old jeep trail over the top down to a summer camp area off the road to Pahrump. Loved the beauty of the area. It is hard for me to believe now, but on Sundays I would ride my ten speed from the east side of Tropicana up to Rainbow and turn west on I believe Charleston to Red Rock Canyon. Heading home was easy because it was all down hill! Thank you so much for those memories, oh to be 30 again and in that shape to ride uphill all that way!

When i was a young lad, 10 or so, lived in SoCal. Dad would give each of us six kids a dollar, drop us off at Knotts Berry Farm for the day. (Before disney, my aunt and uncle lived a mile os so away), you could actuallu park in the strawberry fields, train ride, stagecoach ride, burro ride, and minature Model T rides. Sit in a covered wagon from your home state, hear concert, bank robbery,with gun shootout, have burger and soda, ride couple rides . So, Sarah, you probably did miss out at Binnie Springs. When my kids were growing up in 70s, went to knotts, whoa... way to commerical! Also went out to Calico Ghost town in early days also . Hmm.... 77, now i remember why i seen the old places before blacktop and entrance fees!

The basic limitation is that it's mainly BLM land, except for the pockets shown in the video (Bonnie Springs, Blue Diamond, Calico Basin). However, the BLM released and sold a big chunk of land to the County several years ago. The area which was repeatedly shown in the video as being the edge of town, was actually BLM land 10 years ago. Those houses have only been built in the last 18 months, going right up to the edge of BLM land. If the BLM sells another chunk of land to the County, that will get filled up too.

Congratulations on 200,000 subscribers!!! Living in Vegas for a very long time (since 1961) I’ve seen many changes in our “fair” valley. My Mom use to go to Spring Valley Ranch to see plays and various events there thru the summer. It was great for us kids to go to Bonnie Springs and go thru the “Old Las Vegas” ghost town for all the staged gun fights and really cool little shops! All gone now. They had the best curly fries!! 😃 you know in the bar where all the dollar bills were all over the walls??there was a dollar bill signed by the guy who blew up that building in Oklahoma!! Wonder what happened to all those dollar bills?? The Ranch is still there. But various big wigs are encroaching on the beauty of Red Rock. Personally I think it’s a shame.

Remembering the first time the desert was only 2 blocks away. 10 years later housing had expanded about 2 miles into the desert, ruining my memories. The housing has no impact at all on the water table, but the water table has an impact on the housing. If Las Vegas disappeared tomorrow, it would make no difference to the level of Lake Mead, but if Lake Mead disappeared tomorrow, it would have a huge effect on Las Vegas. Las Vegas uses less than 1% of the water that comes out of the lake. The overwhelming majority of the water goes to support agriculture across a huge seven state area. As someone else noted, California has been using eight times the amount allotted to it under the Colorado River Compact, for a long time.

Keep it wild and natural, liked the orange stucco house , cute not a Mc Mansion like the big ugly white one . The stucco house blended in nicely with its surroundings. Love the history, fun and interesting! Great job once again!

My wife and I had our honeymoon at Bonnie springs in 2002. We also took our kids there when they did the Civil war reenactment’s. It was a really awesome place. 👍🏻👍🏻

Definitely in favor of conservation of unique places, at least I can visit, and we have the lovely queen of the desert to take us on a video tour of these remarkable treasures
