Back in the day, Pops Oasis was home to "Bonnie and Clyde Death Car" that you wanted to see a couple of weeks ago. I used to stop there to have a cold one on my way back from furniture deliveries out around Sandy Valley and Pahrump back in 1974 or so. Worked for American Furniture (long gone) on Charleston Blvd. The owners (Cliff and Rosemary Truesdale) owned a place next door to Wayne Newton's Casa De Shenandoah in Paradise Valley. In the summer they went north to Rapid City to escape the heat and we hung out with their daughter around the pool. Every once in a while, Newton would come up to the wall and invite his neighbors (us) to a party at his place. Most of the headliners in Vegas showed up when they were in town. It was pretty cool for a 25-year-old truck driver to rub elbows with people like Wayne Newton and Robert Goulet! In fact, I ran into Goulet in the bar outside the showroom at old Sands. I mentioned that my ex-mother-in-law was a huge fan, and it was her birthday. It was about 1 am, but he picked up the bar phone and called her. He spent about 5 minutes trying to convince her he really was Robert Goulet, but she hung up on him, so he had the photographer take a picture of the two of us and signed it, "It really was me! Bob Goulet! Unreal!!!

I'm Canadian and love the American southwest. I've stayed at the Gold Strike a couple of times! Some may consider it a dump but I found the rooms to be clean, it had a Denny's on site and it was a perfect place to crash after a lot of driving. Last time I was there was about 5 years ago and after fighting my way out of LA freeway jungle and about 6 hours on the road, I was so glad I didn't have to fight Vegas traffic and the Gold Strike was like an oasis! I hope they don't tear it down! Have some fond memories of Jean and the Gold Strike!

As a former truck driver, i use to like to lay over at the Nevada Landing. The truck parking was close to the entrances of the casino. I loved to eat at the counter in the coffee shop and one night i tried their minestrone soup and it brought treats to my eyes, It reminded me of my mom’s. I call back a few day later and asked to speak to the chief and told him about their memorial soup. I asked if there were any particular day of the week they made minestrone soup. I wanted to take some back home to my brother and sister. He said the soup changes daily depending on what they had left over. Only had that fantastic soup once, but I’ll always remember it

Back in the 90s, that whole place, Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bills, Primadonna, Gold Strike and Nevada Landing was the bomb! They offered a ton of free stuff, had an awesome roller coaster, fantastic prime rib and cheap rooms. The good ol days of Jean and Prim.

Go to Jarbidge, NV. Your kind of place. "Jarbidge" morphed from the Shoshone word for Evil Spirits because it was believed that giants roamed there and ate braves. Be careful on the alleged "road" if you do. It will be a great story. If you don't go between June and September, you better go by dog sled. If you come from the north, recommended route, Rogerson UT and you see a sign "Pavement Ends" stand on the brakes or there may be a looooong drop to the Jarbidge River. Death Valley and the rest of NV are woosie compared to Jarbidge.

Pop’s Oasis was located on the east side of interstate 15. It was a small casino that had a 3/4 size craps table. The casino/hotel Gold Strike used to have a small champagne brunch venue that was very nice. And there used to be a free shuttle between the Nevada Landing and the Gold Strike. Both these casinos had single-deck 21 that paid 3:2 on a blackjack.

They still do drag racing out there on Las Vegas Blvd.! It is on TV on the Discovery Channel, under the Street Outlaws series! Very popular shows all across America! Jean is where the new international airport was supposed to be built and they were putting in a super-fast train from Jean to LV! What ever happened to that?

My son and I were out there in 2019 just a few weeks before Covid hit for the Mint 400 and went through that old casino and they had a pretty big display of old desert race cars, trucks, and motorcycles in there! It was pretty cool! The Terribles have been part of a few off road videos as well. One of them they had a 750 motorcycle engine powering a blender with a slick form a go-kart on it.

Back then in the 70's, 80's and early 90's there wasn't much between Primm and Las Vegas. I can remember getting gas in Las Vegas and it was never near the freeway or the strip.
