I worked for Vince Lombardi the Summer of 1969, the only summer he spent as coach of the Washington Redskins . I became close to him because I reported directly to him . I asked him who he thought was the best corner back he had ever seen . He answered without hesitation: "Herb Adderley"... Real Packer fans might recall Herb scored the last touchdown for the Packers under Lombardi as Head Coach-his 60 yard pic for a touchdown to put Super Bowl II away for the Pack . Herb Adderley and Ronnie Lott were the best corners who ever played .

Add this further plaudit about Herb. After one of the Packers' victories, Coach Lombardi told him that he (Lombardi) had just watched the very best performance that he'd ever seen from a cornerback. He was an amazing athlete and player.

A beast of a cornerback who paid his dues and was paid handsomely with three Super Bowl rings and probably the owner of the best pair of muttonchops in NFL history. RIP Mr. Adderley, you deserve eternal rest.

FINALLY GOT TO MEET MY ALL TIME FAVORITE PLAYER EVER IN 1970 AT A LITTLE LEAGUE AWARDS CEREMONY... CLASS ACT, GREAT PLAYER AND HUMAN BEING.. RIP MR.ADDERLY

I saw him play 3 times (all as a Packer). Personally I think he should be in the top 20, not #64. There was a magic about the 1960's Packers. It's before the game became such a commodity. As kids we would pretend we were certain players on the Packers. Their was a strong sense of regional identity. We didn't care about NFL games if it wasn't the Packers playing. Herb was a great player and is a great human being.

Think about the left side of the Packer defense...87-Willie Davis at DE ; 89-Dave Robinson- OLB ; 26-Herb Adderley -CB ...all three of them are now in the Hall of Fame . I will never forget when the Packers played Dallas in the Cotton Bowl in 1965 ,leading 34-27 late in the fourth quarter . The Cowboys had a first down on the Packer one-yard line . . Green Bay held them four downs on their one yard line , and the game ended when Dallas QB Don Meredith threw an interception to Packer safety Tom Brown in the end zone .To this day, the best goal line stand in a clutch game I have ever seen .

I was a young boy in the 60's and loved football...we played it 7 days a week in my neighborhood in Florida, and I loved the Packers (Until Shula came to Miami:), my favorite player was #5 Paul Hornung, but I fancied myself a cornerback so I watched Herb Adderly closely in every packers game they televised.
@janejiumaleh382 жыл бұрын
Adderly was that guy who came through in the most crucial times of the game. Herb was clutch. One of my favorite Packers ever!
@danielhagan9216 ай бұрын
I strongly agree. There were some defensive players whose names just kept coming up while I watched TV. In fact, you only had to be within earshot of your TV. Herb Adderley was the one name I most remember most for that. Certainly there have been many more. One of the more recent HOF inductees I can recall hearing so much about was Herb's Dallas teammate, Chuck Howley. These guys were always where the action was on the field.

wtf he's not better than Moss lmao
@pauljohnson33407 жыл бұрын
Moss played in an era where if a defender even touches a receiver downfield, it's an automatic penalty. Herb Adderley was a nasty DB. One of the best cornerbacks to ever play. Enough with this "Moss is the best ever" bullshit. If he played in the 1960's and 1970's he would have had his head smashed in with his behavior on the field.
@1ilbrayaka7 жыл бұрын
Paul Johnson so you're saying that DBs had an easier time back then? That's a bit hypocritical of you to say that Moss is a worse player than adderly because he had an easier time but then say DBs had an easier time in adderly's era
@pauljohnson33407 жыл бұрын
Aunt Jemima They are also playing different positions in different eras. Apples and oranges.
@James-hq1yv7 жыл бұрын
Aunt Jemima Herb was obviously more dominant during his career then Moss was. Moss was the best reciever or only a 4× all pro in 12 years with 0 championships. Herb was 7× all pro in 11 years with 8 championships.
