One comment about the car, one comment about economics. First, there is not only one. There are two. One with the OHC 6 "Sprint" motor, and one with a 326 cu in V8. Second, regarding the butthurt commenters on GM not moving forward with the Banshee. Yes, GM was worried about syphoning sales off the Corvette. This would have likely been priced a little cheaper then the Corvette, which would take buyers of the entry level Corvette and move them to the Banshee. Why would that be a problem? Because you already did the R and D on the Corvette, and you would still have to pay off the development costs AND make a profit on the Banshee. You won't get there by taking away even some sales of an existing product. Further, you would have parts costs associated with replacements, tooling on a car that shared nothing with any other car. You would have to sell tons of Banshees to make it work, and GM already had a two-seater sports car. So the financials just didn't make sense. So what did happen? GM took some of the elements from the car and incorporated them into the Firebird/Camaro platforms. These platforms allowed "straddling" for a sportscar/muscle car classifications, offered four-seat practicality, a variety of power plant options that allowed making the car everything from a family car to a real performance machine. Costs spread across two divisions. It was definitely the smart move, made millions, sold tons, and the Camaro continues to this day. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but it wasn't because GM was "mean", or "didn't get it", or "were idiots". Manufacturing is a business.

Exactly so that way the can become not only GM's Mopar (like the GTO to compete with the Charger and the Trans Am to compete with the Challenger) but also America's BMW as well (like the G6 compete with the M3/M4, the G8 compete with the M5/M6 and the Solstice compete with the BMW Roadster) and all will The new LS based DOHC 32V V8s that are the same displacement as the original Pontiac V8s have potential to be Coyote killers as well.

Negative. This came first in 1964. In that year the bigwigs at Chevy felt threatened for their Corvette and had this car, which outperformed the vette by miles, shelved forever. Fuck Chevy. They stole most of their "classic" designs from Pontiac and screwed them both at the start and at the end of their careers.

They killed the first electric cars in the US and the only hydrogen car to drive across the country. The inventor mysteriously fell ill and died. I believe GM acquired the car after a meeting with the builder. The Sandrail VW water/hydrogen car was possibly destroyed in a fire later on? There is an Australian guy riding around on a motorcycle that's powered by a hydrogen motor, he's smart and he's not telling me what how we did it. But car batteries in buckets of water sure do make a lot of hydrogen not that difficult to figure out. I have to say I do like a internal combustion engine that runs on fossil fuels. For one, there's nothing like the sound of a turbocharged finely tuned engine growling and popping through hey stainless steel dual exhaust system on a cold start first thing in the morning. I'm going to go drive around the block.

Multiple times the almighty Corvette has factored into killing other GM cars. Over time all the divisions were reduced to Chevy clones. This was all in the name of "eliminating redundancy". And all this did is make them truly redundant. Every time a division designed something too unique, GM politics would undermine it. So we end up with only 2 healthy divisions - Chevy and Cadillac (who's good fortune is that they don't compete in the same market space). I somewhat resent Chevy as a division.

Hey Chevrolet I've owned them all. Cheverolet's fit and finish was always far inferior to Pontiac. All my Z 28's, and I've owned prime examples, eventually rattled like log wagons. Trans Am's not a squeak. I could go on but Cheverolet's product was always of course, inferior to Pontiacs. No comparison really. I'd never own a new Cheverolet today. Every one you pass has the passenger side light out. That's how you know a Cheverolet at night, they only ever have one headlight burning.
@richn72996 жыл бұрын
Hey Chevrolet yes really. CHEVEROLET was junk compared to Pontiac. Everybody knows this. You do not know much about GM, that's apparent. Even Corvettes are just so so. Certain year models are highly sought. Most weren't built well Yes, I've owned prime examples. Back in the day each GM moniker was just like a separate car company..even though all were GM. Buick was always the very best. Then Cadillac. Then Pontiac or Olds depending on who you ask. Then Cheverolet. ..unless you're talking trucks. Anyone who says different isn't a real car guy...Most will say Cadillac's the top GM product. They'd be wrong. Buick always was the better car. Always!

The Riviera was a nice enough car, but Buick really never put out more than one performance car {the GSX}. Mechanically sound cars, but uninspireing. Pontiac made the best cars PERIOD for years, though the Olds Rocket engine line does deserve a tip of the hat. I still can't get over the fact that in just ten years, we have lost 5 american car brands.
