Inside this huge monolithic building is mountains of second-hand otaku goods! There's books, manga, CDs, DVDs, games, figures, and of course Gunpla! It's a great place to buy kits cause they are pretty cheap due to the fact that they are pre-owned- but they are still totally new in the box so don't worry! Also a great place to find P-Bandai and Expo exclusive kits!

I always hit up Mandarake up first whenever I go to Akiba. I use that as my baseline for a kit. IF I don't see it somewhere else for the same or cheaper, I go back to Mandarake to get it.

Is it possible to buy a one-day or weekly pass for the Metro?

You might be able to get a day pass for the metro but I'm not sure. It really wouldn't be too useful unless you think you're gonna change location more than twice in a day. You can get longer passes like a week for the JR train line. But that's really expensive and not worth it at all unless you wanna travel all over the country in 5 days, which I wouldn't recommend.

I've checked out Mandarake a few times but I never really could find anything I liked. Did you ever check out Entertainment Hobby Shop Jungle? It's also in Akihabara. It's right across the street from a kebab place. They had plenty of old Gunpla kits and P-Bandai kits.
