(New intro! Let me know what you think in the comments below!)
So I went to Japan for vacation, and while I was there I wanted to shoot some video to show you guys what it's like shopping for Gunpla!
Maybe some of you have been there, maybe you're planning a visit soon, or maybe it's your dream to go there some day!
I hope this video shows you (or reminds you of) the wonders of being able to shop for Gunpla and modeling supplies directly in Japan.
In this video I visited two stores in Osaka. First is Yodabashi Umeda, Yodabashi is a chain of large electronics stores found in every large city throughout Japan. Second is Mandarake, a chain of resale shops that can also be found in every major city.
There are many other places to buy Gunpla in Japan, but these are two of the best! Enjoy!
And stay tuned for the "Japan Haul" video coming soon! ^^
Follow me on Instagram or Twitter @ZakuAurelius
Or check my blog: zakuauelius.blo...
Thanks for watching!

Like any weaboo too bad japan is one of the most xenophobic cultures in the world. I don't watch anime but I really love gundam, but I learned slowly after going there that sometimes its now the most american friendly place especially not knowing any japanese. The people in Korea and Thailand were far nicer especially Thailand.

It's just because people don't open up to it, and like in any case, the negative aspects are usually the ones we read first.
@ZakuAurelius
@ZakuAurelius 9 жыл бұрын
Darkgodaphex Both good points. Japanese people can be pretty xenophobic. But there is a lot you need to understand, it's not really that simple. I can tell you from my experience of living in both Korea and Japan, I personally find the Korean people to generally be more... not xenophobic, but let's just say you get A LOT more stares in Korea, especially in smaller cities. In Japan people just ignore you mostly, which is actually a negative thing for some people at times as well. Anyway, it's very complicated. I do think a lot of people idealize Japan as this perfect magical place when, like any place, it's far from perfect if you actually live there for a while to experience the culture first hand.
@MrPanda_Cake
@MrPanda_Cake 9 жыл бұрын
That's true. I guess when it comes to most otakus, when you say "Japan" they just imagine Akihabara. It's just until you've lived or actually studied the culture/infrastructure of Japan properly, you don't 'properly' know it.

Man Japanese people are so lucky they have all this stuff. No wonder they really don't get into too much trouble over there, they have cool stores and hobbies. US kids have so many problems because they don't have activities and creative outlets like the kids in japan have so they go out and cause trouble.
@JAKphoenixify
@JAKphoenixify 8 жыл бұрын
I think that's being unfair, and this comment validates that you know nothing about the culture. Japanese kids are cultivated with strong values, from an early age, and thought the value of hard work by doing School maintenance, this teaches them responsibility and respect. Every person over there from janitor to Banker is treated with a great deal of respect, and more often than not, kids are surrounded by an open culture to grow and evelop. A lot of kids in the US have problems because of the state of the country , either having to much or too little, and a lack of values. My father taught these to me at an early age and I turned out better than most people around me, who were consumed by alcohol and an empty lifestyle. So I don't think it has anything to do with creative outlets. The US has more than it's fair share of those. The problems lies with their values . Always has.
@adamrivera8295
@adamrivera8295 8 жыл бұрын
+JAKPhoenixify is very correct. Everyone from a young age is taught amongst other good values: respect, humility, honor, and logic. It doesn't matter if you work at 7-Eleven or an International Corporation, you have pride and honor in your work, yourself, and your family but more importantly, you treat your friends and even strangers with the same honor and respect. In America, values like that are merely brushed over growing up. They are thought to be ingrained in children so they are usually (as in, not always) never strictly enforced. Some adults here even think kids talking back disrespectfully is "cute" or a "phase". Not in Japan, that behavior has ZERO tolerance and is disciplined out of a kid at a very early age and replaced by morals that value success and accomplishment for both you and your family name. It's simply a different culture and doesn't revolve around having many things to do or having access to more hobbies. But you're right about one thing, they are lucky to have SOOO many Mecha stores >,,

Yes, its more how the kids are raised here in the US. I lived in Japan for 14 years in northern area and Okinawa. Values and innocence are encouraged. Here, kids want to grow up too fast. My boys are 9 and we have a backroom dedicated just for modeling making, we enter contests and spend most of my time with them. Most parents just want to do own thing and let their kids do their own thing here. Also, modeling is an expensive hobby, but so is gaming...for me modeling with my kids is priceless.

Yodobashi Akiba is a bit strict when it comes to filming videos in their store; well, almost every hobby shop I visited in that area has big signs saying "no cameras allowed" or just a plain image of a camera with a cross mark. By far Mandarake Umeda and Nakano are the best out of the bunch.

Actauly it' possible to find gunpla in almost every toys shops. Yodobashi is famous I visited this one in Kyoto and both in Tokyo Akihabara and Shinjuku. In Shinjuku there are 2 shops. The mane one is for electronic and the other one which is right behinds is for hobbys. The plamo is in the basment. I recommand Labi store at Ikebukuro east exit right next to the Big Camera. These two stores got lots of gunpla but at Labi one level is completaly dedicated to Gundam kits. In Akihabara it's possible to find some stores with gunpla but mostly second hand not build. Mostly special edition pretty expensive. Akihabara is a maze so prepare your visit before you go there. It's also possible to find special series at the gundam Front museum at Odaiba. You should pay the museum intrance to visit the store. The only interesting part for me was the factory movie and processes with a casting machine. The gunpla at the shop are very expensive compared to the regular shops Finaly you can find gunpla at the Yamashiroya store at Ueno. If u are going to Japan and want to visit stores allow you at least one day. and take an empty bag to bring back your kits xD Good hunt and enjoy :)

Okay, I doubt anyone will care, but at 2:21 you can see a black Honda Civic on the street. That's actually a pretty rare car in Japan, because the coupes were built in Canada/The US and exported to Japan in small numbers(ironic, right?). You can even see the driver on the "wrong" side of the car lol. That one in particular has the infamous "hijacker" body kit from the first Fast and Furious film where they drive underneath the transport truck. Very cool spot even in 2015. I've followed the JDM scene for years and rarely see them in the wild like that

I'm a big fan of Gundam but I just can't find shops that sell Gundam in Singapore! The only exception is Toys'R us but one HG cost $30-38! But I recently found a shop called Hobbypoint and at one peak from the entrance, it is filled with Gundam kits and other anime figures! I'll check it out soon! But nice video. Plus, did you migrate to Japan? I'm kinda new to your channel

I'm going to Japan soon (Tokyo and maybe Osaka), and was just wondering whether you saw many Jumbo Grade Gundams (looking for a Zeta) around? If so, where? were they ubiquitous at say Yodabashi Umeda stores? Thanks!

Jesus Christ. I was lost but now I believe. Dude how come none of the stores we have in America looks anything close to this?? The one place I’ve been to outside of Japan that looks anything close to this is at WonderLand in Hong Kong where my mother is from but even then.. this store He is showing is absolutely mindblowing. Now that I have your brain flowing- can you imagine a Japanese person being super in love with something trivial to us from the USA? They’re probably making videos too of their favorite American hobby. Weird alternate realities that I see in real life. OMG I just heard the Amuro song in the video I’m crying ok time to sleep it’s obviously too late to be awake rn.

Nice vid - I like the new format, I hope you keep it and improve on it in the future vids. I envy Japan for having large dedicated stores for model hobby-related products. Here in the Philippines, such shops are almost non-existent and we have to go to the few hobby shops only to find that what you're looking for is out of stock. Ordering online from Japan is possible but you will have to pay 200% of the original price for the corruption tax that the Philippine Customs will put on it (yes, corruption - the tax is obviously a cost they made up and won't even give you a receipt after so there will be no paper trail). The total tax by law should only be 20-30% but they give outrageous calculations that the tax blows up to 200%. In other words, we have to rely on our luck for our local toy shops to supply the kits we want. Regardless, this is a very wonderful and educational vid. Hope you keep it coming :D

ZakuAurelius yeah, but I get my gunpla and supplies from a shop that sells them in almost Yen price so I guess it's okay. We just have to get around the customs to avoid those taxes so we rely on shops to shoulder the customs taxes. :D

***** yeah, I get my kits delivered by shops in Greenhills (Wasabi Toys is my primary supplier) and some other online sellers. I will not buy from Mall toy stores as they charge almost double and more. Wasabi can provide an official receipt if requested - I got a receipt when I bought a Sazabi ver Ka from them. I only build for the fun of it so I guess I don't have to worry about competitions since I don't plan to enter one in the future hehe

***** yup, you can request an OR from wasabi. Too bad for malls like to jack up their prices without remorse. Their 'sale' price is the original regular price so I don't get kits from malls at all.

Gimel Tomines last time i checked Toy Kingdom at Trinoma mall still have a decent few of them, but don't expect them to have what you want. I still remember back when i was at primary school around 2003, there was were small stores in SM North EDSA or that sold gunpla, airfix, tamiya, and comics, you name it they got it... in one of the stores.

If you want to buy in bulk, i'd recommend not to buy from yodobashi. Say you are buying 3 MGs, you will be able to save around 1k yen on other places like sofmap or a similar store. Yodobashi has a little bit of a price bump compared to other shops because it's just beside the station (basing on my expirience in akihabara)

Jesus christ the prices are roughly half of what we pay! The Action bases especially are three times as expensive in the US. If I lived in Japan, the same amount of money would have bought me twice the collection. :(

can someone explain something for me im sort of lost here, is gunpla just about make models or is it about custom building, or just fun? my father has made a point on "why custom design your own your not going to be entering tournaments, why not just make the models and pay your respects by building them instead of taking away from there original designs to customize" can anyone help me get the love of gunpla back
