Its great to see someone really go deep on mandolin step-ups. So many people do not know how to set them up correctly. Accurate Bridge placement, string spacing and comfortable-playable action are everything on a mandolin!

Just amazing how much easier fast-forward has made the job of set-up. 😉 Thanks for sharing the details.

It sounds great! Eastman makes good guitars, too. Hand made by craftsmen in China, yet some of the best instruments around, especially for the price.
@davidharris7431 Жыл бұрын
Yeah , when it comes to wood the Chinese know what they're doing . Very high quality work.

I do not like the sound of Eastman Mandolins, but I gotta say Jerry, you putting on that Deer Antler Saddle made that mandolin sound so much better. Much more clarity and a nice woody sound. Great video as always.
@mitzioden4926 Жыл бұрын
Jerry said it had a woody sound before, and the antler saddle would enhance the volume and tone, not change it.

Loved this video. Thanks for sharing it. Just one little thing: I hope you were not wearing a mask just because you were making a video. Please wear a mask when you’re sanding or filing horn or bone, and hardwood too, especially rosewood and walnut. Stay safe, brother, and God bless!

Jerry, I love this setup video! I just bought a new MD815 classic finish Eastman mandolin and while it is wonderful, I wondered if it too would benefit from your setup and even a deer antler saddle swap? I live just down the road from you, near Joplin and could drive over and visit. Let me know what you think, please! Thanks :)

Hello Jerry , whats the best way to remove scorch marks from the bending pipe . If its possible at all . The wood is mahogany . Peace ✌
@zapa1pnt Жыл бұрын
I'm not Jerry, but here's my 2 cents. I would think any metal polish would get you somewhere. If that doesn't do it, try sandpaper, starting with 220 and work backward , to lower grits, until you find the one which works. Then work forward through the higher grits, to remove excessive scratches. 😁✌🖖

I have a mandolin that is pristine new and I hobby play steal string guitar. It is a "cross over" which I am told means a more rounded back of the neck for guitar players ... learning. Man it is hard to press ... I am in southern Oregon coast area... how do I have one set up? I'd only use it in small quiet places... not a big band thing... pushing onto 70 years old now.

Do my eyes deceive me, or is that Eastman mandolin a little deeper than a typical F5?

I believe it's the same depth as standard.

Hello Jerry I have been watching you post for many years and love what you do to fix anything that comes in to you .I have a mandolin that when the first two strings( e strings, are fretted on about any fret one is no longer in tune, any suggestions on how to fix that problem. I was thinking maybe one was pinching at the nut or saddle. Thank you. P.s. the intonation is good on it.
