If you’re still intimidated by it, I would highly recommend picking up a Bambu Labs printer. I have been printing for over a decade, and there has never been a more competent, usable, reliable, and dead simple to operate machine. Prusa Research’s printers are a close second, but their steadfast commitment to the RepRap community, which I greatly appreciate, is holding them back as a printer manufacturer.

This looks awesome, I did something similar but for sharpening gravers. My concern with this machine from the looks is the concentricity, the attachements in the collet look to not be running true/level. Do you think that stems from the spindle, collets or inserts? because if this could be improved upon it would be an amazing piece of workshop machinery! Well done
@sweetgumnyc7794
@sweetgumnyc7794 Жыл бұрын
it actually runs true if your work is centered properly. i think what youre seeing is the table shaking. i have to film on a folding table because i cant get correct camera angel on my bench so the machine shakes because of the table. on a proper bench its much better. that said, its not a super high quality spindle motor but for the price its definitely sufficient. there are better motors but they do come at a much higher price. i saw a video where someone spun the rear fan on a lathe to balance it better and apparently its supposed to significantly improve the motors performance. i havent really needed to but i might try in the future.

I hate to burst your bubble, but “bench-top motor with many tools” was something our grandfathers, and our great grandfathers had. The only thing revolutionary about it is that now it can be made by anyone, and that is truly something to be celebrated. The power tool industry found out a long time ago that it was much better business to sell you many motors, each with one tool attached, than one motor with separate tools. If you look at old, old bench top tools, you’ll often see a belt pully on the other end of the motor shaft. For accessories that they made, that someone else made, and that you made.

@CMDR_Hadion hate to burst your bubble but he can actually... its the first mainly 3d printed multi use bench grinder with multiple uses... @CMDR_Hadion
@CMDR_Hadion 2 ай бұрын
@@corocsat8469 take it from a patent holder, just because you re-make a pre-existing item in a new and innovative way via a new manufacturing node doesn’t necessarily make that item patentable. Believe me, been there, done that. The USPTO would almost certainly just see this as a bench top motor with an accessory shaft. He might be able to get this patented under, a Jeweler’s Tool Class, if there is such a class, or perhaps a different tool class with some limited scope. Applying mundane and pre-existing technologies in a unique way to a *new* industry *is* patentable, and it’s how I got my patent. And owning a patent on something does *not* mean you have to close source it, though most do, myself included- though that’s at the behest of my other partners. A patent *protects* your legal right to a monopoly on a new invention for 20 years. What you do with that monopoly is up to you. You can open source your patented design with a non-commercial license, if you feel generous after spending thousands of dollars in the patenting process.
@MechTechMax
@MechTechMax 2 ай бұрын
@@corocsat8469 hate to burst your bubble, but he probably can't. A patentable idea has to be novel and non-obvious. A horizontal mounted motor/shaft is the same as a lathe, the 3d printing aspect is obvious, and attachments for different purposes (jigs) are also not new, so none of those features are patentable. Even if he could patent this, it wouldn't be worth it, patents cost a lot of money, and this is a very easy idea to copy, especially being marketed as cheap alternative, he can't raise prices too much to recoup those costs. Certain jigs might be patentable but any jig that hasn't been patented before probably won't have enough of a market. That being said the designs are copyrighted and he could potentially trademark the name and marketing materials. He also as a big advantage in being the first 3D printed system to market, but look at the various 3D printed organization systems that people have come up with. The big market for this will be selling the STLs, as that'll be the biggest draw for hoobyists with 3D printers, as it's a good cost value, for $10 you'd have to model everything yourself in an hour to break even, not to mention hours of design, printing, prototyping, testing and redesigning that he's done.
@aaronacj
@aaronacj Ай бұрын
@@corocsat8469you patent ideas, processes, novel designs and concepts not materials used for those ideas and concepts. Like car rims have been metal for decades, then people made carbon fiber rims. You can’t patent making carbon fiber rims but you can patent the process if it’s new.
