Hi Lyle, in a previous video you pointed out the use of audio taper volume pots in old Fender amps. This was repeated in Mojotone's kits. I replaced the audio taper volume pots in the 5E3 kit with linear taper pots and I like the way the amp responds to volume settings. With audio taper pots, the amp came on at three on the volume knobs; with the linear taper pots, it comes on at 1/2 or less. I've ordered a set of pots for the 6G3 kit. It has become my main gigging amp. Thanks for sharing your expertise in these videos - it makes a difference!

Hello Lyle, What I like about you is your commitment to tone and quality. Your uncompromized attitude is a beacon in the darkness of modern madness. You can make the silk purse from the sow's ear The attention to detail is remarkable, thank you for sharing. And the forward thinking, using the radial caps is where it is at. Looking forward to how you will use the mosfets in your new designs. More power to you, keep us informed. You are state of the art.

My SF Princeton Reverb has a reverb/tremolo issue lately. Played the amp today, then saw this video and that's exactly what the reverb/tremolo is doing. Finding someone who has a comprehensive knowledge of amps saves a lot of speculation about service. Thanks for another excellent video

I have been watching all of your videos (pertaining to) Fender Princeton Reverb Amps. I am so Impressed with your knowledge and meticulous work. Everything you do, improves (not only) the Sound - but overall reliability and longevity of the amplifier. Great-stuff. oNe LovE from NYC

I had my Champ done just like that on the recommendation of the tech. The can cap is still there so it looks stock from the outside.

Great video, Lyle, thank you. I'd like to use some of those Nichicons in my projects as well, as I like the size, and I'm confident that they'll be reliable. It would be amazing to see part numbers or series prefix of common components you use, as navigating Mouser and Digikey can be daunting because of all the options. This is timely - I have a '65 Vox AC100 that has had the cans replaced 30 years ago, and they have failed as well. I was hesitant to use the CE cans, so I'll instead look for a non-destructive place to mount strips. Maybe there's a business opportunity to fabricate strips that mount over standard cap can diameters for this purpose, but then again, the potential market probably isn't worth the effort!

I wish I had seen your videos regarding the failure of those CE cans before I re-capped a Princeton Reverb using one. I think the first time I heard you mention it was a day or two after I had done the job. Fortunately it's a "house" amp that rarely gets played and not a customer's.

Hello Sir, I sit at home in Plymouth UK enjoying your diagnosis and preferred prognosis of the Princeton Reverb amps. I have built an aa1164 as a first build and it works! The reverb has some noise and when I disconnect the tank and turn the reverb control up, the volume increases, which sounds good actually, is this normal or have I made a happy accident somewhere along the way? I welcome anybody's thoughts on this. Thank you for sharing your talent.

@@extramile734 i guess so. It usually costs more than some higher wattage blackface amps, which is crazy to me, but not everyone needs a twin. I will probably never be able to afford one. It's sad that the vintage market had gotten so expensive. I just want high quality stuff at a somewhat reasonable price like 1500. Even that is a lot of money.
@retread10832 жыл бұрын
@@gavinw5469 The Princeton Reverb (and the Deluxe Reverb) are what I'd consider right-sized amps. There are still some dinosaurs who participate in toxic stage volume wars and these amps won't keep pace. But intelligent musicians insist on comfortable stage volume and a good PA system.
