Thanks for posting. Haven't heard what the issues (beyond the deck lid) were with the Mustangs but you can bet they'll be fixed by Sebring.

I was really pulling for these guys. I knew there was potential for a poor result, being fresh out of the gate and subject to draconian BOP...but I so wanted them to overcome the adversity. I'll be pulling for them just the same come Sebring!

The fact that they didn't get last and the car finished in the first race of its first season is impressive enough.

This sounded almost as good and beastly as the caddy GTP. I thought this and the lexus would sound similar but this is definitely louder. The AMG is close

The Lexus cars do sound somewhat similar but they aren’t in the ballpark of this and the Cadillac.

Thanks for posting this. I'm a huge GM fan, but this makes my heart happy. I was at Watkins Glen the last year of the Corvette C7R and I had a Chevy SS or Holden basically at the time so we bought the Corvette Motorsport Package for that race and were at the presentation of the new program for the C8R. I remember specifically the GM press guy proclaiming that the mid front engined rear drive platform was no longer a viable option if Corvette wanted to be competitive on the world stage. Interesting, because Mercedes is mid front, rear drive, as well as BMW, and Aston, and Lexus as well, and now Mustang too. Looks like that was just the excuse to finally go mid-engined so the world will supposedly finally call Corvette a supercar. It always was a supercar. It won in its class at Le Mans multiple times and was competitive where ever it was raced in "GT" spec. It wasn't ever about the platform being developed all the way. It was always about perception and wanting to be America's Ferrari. Like I said, I'm a huge GM fan, but honestly, now I hope the Mustang hands GM the back of the grid for how they misrepresented the whole need to go mid-engined.

I would have been fine with c8 only issue is it doesn't sound like a vette it's basically a ferrari 488 engine re-engineerd
@ivanafeelcool914311 ай бұрын
GM planned on doing mid engine decades ago. They just never pulled the trigger until the C8.
@jeremyhansen818611 ай бұрын
@ivanafeelcool9143 Yes, I agree with you. It's been well documented, but the reason given by a GM rep at the race was that the mid-engined platform being the only route to be competitive. It wasn't just that guy either. They had a couple presentations that weekend at Watkins Glen, and several GM white collar big wigs alluded to Corvette not being competitive in the front mid-engined rear drive platform, subsequently they decided to make a mid-engined car is what they were saying.
@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal292111 ай бұрын
Nope. There is more suspension tuning involved with front mid cars. GM knows racing just as good as Mercedes at this point.

It has to come to almost a complete stop to corner and the massive body creates so much aerodynamic drag that the straightaway speed is nonexistent. WTF did Ford try to engineer other than a car to appeal to instagram?

I’m disappointed on several levels with the Rolex 24. First, I want to hear what the restrictions of reducers for HP and extra weight, that certainly had detrimental effects on all mustangs. It’s hard to be mad at Ford for only 1 of 3 able to finish race when you consider the extra stress restrictions had to have had on our poor performance, especially letting corvette beat us by 22 seconds. Secondly, I’m no longer a fan of this race. I wasn’t aware until I had wasted 6 hours that the GTD Pro class restricted HP to 550 and MPH to 175. He’ll, my daughters 2023 GT can get up to that. What the hell? When you think of Ford Vs Ferrari movie about speed being one of the factors, why the hell would anyone want to watch a race where the sport cars had a governor on them? That’s a joke. I need to look into LeMans because if this class is the same BS, I’m questioning what the hell Ford is doing. The coverage was all about the GTP class. Where is Ford I. That class? How does a Ferrari get ahead 6 laps if they have the same 175 top speed. Something doesn’t add up.
@halcyonfray539911 ай бұрын
the ford gt had 480hp and hit 200 on a 4 mile straight without downforce. hitting 175 in a quarter the distance with aero is not slow, its a gt car not a top speed car . ford had a new car and team they will get faster. if the ford had anymore power it would spin constantly and be uncontrollable, the class restriction was necessary. also life is better with less complaining.
@gregoryriley897111 ай бұрын
@@halcyonfray5399 thanks for some additional information and reply. What do you mean by aero? I get more excited by what a manufacturer can accomplish in a car build than a game of which driver is better in same car. I didn’t hear any restrictions by BOP that were regulated to keep Ford from spinning out of control. My comments are specific to this Daytona Endurance Race. I’m a Ford guy. I pride myself on being fair minded and practical. If I spend my time watching something, I want it to be fair. I don’t trust people controlling things. It is much simpler if the winner is not restricted. And I will say this, whomever allowed the different classes to compete at the same time, they are the opposite of safe minded. I’m a Civil Engineer. If I knew that there was a max speed and HP, I never would have been excited to watch the race or have hopes of Ford doing well with the Mustang body. Just look at the aerodynamics differences. Helpful insight would be like learning if the Ferrari had less pit stops. That would be one reason it beat Ford and Chevy by 6 laps
@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal292111 ай бұрын
Sorry but there has to be rules that limit power or you are talking about cars that break down or need full rebuilds after 5hrs racing. F1 isnt a competitive sport at all, and hasnt been since the 70s.
@SwingAxleLover11 ай бұрын
Pretty much all race cars are restricted now. Unrestricted cars with no limits just aren't feasible in motor racing due to cost. All of the cars in GTD have restrictors to be close to one another. The best cars still tend to come out on top. Also, manufactures tend to just end their programs rather than spend endless amounts of money to be competitive, so these restrictions are necessary. Either they exist, or there is no race. A race in which one car that is superior dominates is boring to most people. Also the reliability issues had nothing to do with the restrictions. It's normal for a brand new car like this to have problems, especially when its first race was a 24 hour one. The new Corvette also had issues.
@Jon_Saan11 ай бұрын
@@gregoryriley8971 I appreciate you wanting to be fair minded and practical, so I'll explain as best as I can. Aero as in aerodynamics, the wing, splitter, underbody, diffuser. All made to allow the car to corner much better than any road going Mustang could so even if some spec road cars have more horsepower, they'd have no chance on a race track. But besides that, without BOP and restrictions. The cost of the GT3 class would skyrocket and we'd have like 4 cars racing, which is how the GTE class died out. In regards to the comment about BOP to keep the Ford from being uncontrollable, that applies to all GT3 spec race cars. They are designed to be driven with Traction Control and ABS so less skilled drivers can avoid being a hazard, and the pros can turn them down till they find the most speed. It's a race car class designed for efficiency and consistency. Also when it comes to allowing different classes at the same time, that's how it has always been all over the world. That's endurance racing for you, its about managing traffic and your own car to make it to the end. That's why Ferrari won the GTD class so much, the Fords and Corvettes both had reliability issues and so did the leading BMW at the end of the 24 hours. I was at the event, speed doesn't matter as much as reliability and consistency in a race like the 24 at Daytona.
