I was Army military police (95B) 45 years ago if when you get into the Pan you find a stenciling NSN 1234 etc that would help validate the Pan as genuine military issue. Everything in the military had a NSN (National Stock Number) . Btw the 9 th infantry division military police in 1980 I saw Kawasaki bikes and some cool dune buggy attack vehicles but the MP’s weren’t blessed with them, the infantry units had the fun stuff. Thanks again another awesome video 😎!

I bought a 48 Pan in 1989. I was riding back to work at lunch time when I ran out of gas. A friend of mine saw me and stopped. He told me to pull up the petcock for reserve, something I didn't yet know. I was lucky he stopped or I would have been late getting back from lunch.

I have found that a new 1/4 inch fuel line seals pretty well on any decent barb fitting. Then I use the correct size flat spring type hose clamps which require the use of a set of pliers. It gives it a much more vintage look and clamps down evenly around the entire hose. From an auto mechanic, I learned that screw type clamps often leak because they only clamp around a portion of the hose. Either way...Nice work Mike! Looking forward to more videos on this classic machine! 😎

Actually. the pinch clamps made in two pieces wrap the complete circumference better than anything else I've ever used. Look in the McMaster Carr online catalog. I buy them in stainless steel.

Back in the late 80's my old man was a Federal Game Warden and converted his FLHTC into his patrol unit. He painted his bike Army green, he'd been in the Army since 58, and he loved riding that bike in places 4 wheelers wouldn't go. He stripped and modified that bike to take on the elements. This bike reminds me of those days when he was living large...

So I just gotta' know for sure ??? (I have a few guesses ) > What is that heel pedal with cable on back side of left floorboard purpose / function ? Cable runs behind siren, but my guess would be either secondary clutch or rear brake "hill holder" ...??? Possibly a mechanical drive siren...???
@pacificmike95017 ай бұрын
You press that heel pedal with your foot, engaging the shaft on the siren onto the rear tire. Yes, it is a mechanical drive siren.

Looks like an interesting Pan to play with. I have often heard that cops used Flatheads, but I have seen period videos of Pans being used, I think that L.A. used them. That is not why I am writing tonight though. You often specify 'white lithium grease' for certain applications, does it have some special properties for those applications that regular lithium grease doesn't have? As usual, an interesting video, thanks.

Hi Mike glad to see a new video. I have a 1979 Lowrider FXS. It has 26,000 miles on it. I noticed there seems to be more extra play between shifts. Is there a way to adjust the play? I looked at the linkages and they seem to be ok.
@pacificmike95017 ай бұрын
It is a plague on the late (late 78 up) 4 speeds. The play goes all the way through the linkage and into the lid. A little play in a bunch of places. There's a bushing and arm you can buy that helps a little. Try V-Twin (Tedd Cycle) for parts and upgrades for it.

I have à 1999 heritage softail with an Evo motor. I recently had to replace the head gasket on rear cylinder. I lost the 2 5/16x18x21/2 bolts for the rocker box . The Allen head bolts that are on the rocker arm section. Can I use sleeved bolts that are the same size?
@pacificmike95017 ай бұрын
I don't think you have your sizes right. I think you are calling out metrics. When in doubt, buy the bolts from Harley.
@jonbrown65667 ай бұрын

As I thought you were right. They don't fit. The closest Harley shop is 2 hours from where I live. I live in rural Kentucky. Any ideas on where I can find the right size bolts so I can order them. Thank you. Your videos have helped me replace the head gaskets and rocker box gaskets. It's my own error that I have lost those two bolts. Thank you again and sorry to bother you with this. I know your busy and this is my fault but I don't know where to find the size .
