Ralph, I'm afraid you get a lot colder than we do. Years ago, I was in Vancouver in the Springtime. It was beautiful. I rode my Shovelhead through a bar called "The Blarney Stone" in Gastown. Funtime. Chopperfest really is a topnotch show. I'm sure you'd have a great time here. Stay warm.

Finally, a video explaining the offset of late model specific FX Springer hub/wheels. I have been wanting to put an all black 21" front spoked wheel on my 95 FXSTSB Bad Boy for a long time, but haven't been able to find an aftermarket option. According to your video, I can buy a new 21" for a standard softail and adjust the spokes to achieve the correct offset. Thanks!!!

Hi Mike I'm looking for a Evo for a new project and someone has a '84 out of a fxr for $1000 and it needs to be rebuilt and he knows nothing about it or condition as he's just a wheeler dealer. Wondering if there is anything to look out for with an '84 and if there's any years you'd recommend? Would I be better off paying $3000 for one already rebuilt. And if you prefer bottom or head breathers? Thanks in advance
@pacificmike9501Күн бұрын
Get a price on rebuilding one by a reputable motor builder. Check with people in the business and get a price on a new S&S motor with a warranty. Rebuilding a motor can get quite costly.

This is my kinda carb! Made to do the best job possible and live forever with maintenance. Adjust the mixture as you roll! Getting the float set on a Keihen CV by bending tabs, then re-bending because you bent it too far, no drain plug, yada yada yada! When set up properly, they give good performance and great economy, but I'd sure like to be able to say I had a Rubber Ducky Float in my carb :)

Ah, a brand new floater in the bowl, to gauge the pantry door, level headed & ready now, for that Twist that wants some more . . . 'MORE!?' As our atmospheric pressures, are split through differing tubes, it speedeth up the airflow, like the gap between nice boobs. For that V is for venturi & they sure know how to suck, but if your straw runs dry in the pantry, you need more than a rubber duck! - you need fuel* (*Petroleum motor spirit, openly sold in the colonies, but known as 'gas' . . . they're a strange lot out there : )

I don't have the shiny kit though just the carb so ill be doin what we call chop, cut, rebuild from scratch but at least i have a route to follow. See how things go, ill have to do some yoga poses and put on some classical music cause im not proud of it but i may have a slight temper every so often and well ... Thanks for what ya do man, my mentor permanently moved on a few years back and you remind me alot of him so really is tough to watch ya but fuckin appreciated more than ya know.

Hey Mike, My problem. I have a ‘09 Street Bob FXDB. I installed a Frankenstein Trike kit on it because I needed the balance of 3 wheels because of a heart attack. My rear wheels and tires are 15x10 Centerline auto drags and 295/50x15 Radial T/A’s . My front wheel is a spoke wheel. I bought a 2000-2006 Fat Boy solid wheel that I want on my FXDB. From what I found I need to remove the original fat boy bearings and install the new bearings, 6205-rs bearings. I am stuck there. I found spacer kits for 25mm. Hopefully they will line up brake rotor to caliper. I will remove I rotor since FXDB is single rotor. Have you ever done a swap like this? Old 3/4” and installed on 25mm axle?
@pacificmike95013 күн бұрын
This is stuff where you need a real and "current" parts guy. There are companies that supply different adapter kits for these combinations. I've come up with such problems. Each one is a research project. Matching proper i.d. and o.d. and then the width of the bearing and setting the endplay with the proper internal spcer is sometimes quite a project. Matching the right bearings is also an issue going from English to metric. Sometimes you get the right parts person and they've done the combo you're seeking. When you look around on the internet, asking the right questions, you'll find it. I aplogize for not being helpful here.

Hey Mike, First time commenter. Love your channel. Your sage instruction and advise has been invaluable on my latest vintage bike project. It is not my first vintage bike but it is my first Harley. This video was very helpful but I have a question. I noticed you timed the points first then gapped them. I'm no expert on harleys but I've changed a lot of points and timed a lot of engines. My process has always ben to gap first - then time. Changing the gap changes the timing. Changing the timing has no effect on the gap. Am I wrong or did I misunderstand the video?
@pacificmike95014 күн бұрын
Believe it or not, I've always thought they both affected each other. This may seem strange, but I check and rechcek. Gap, then time. Then do it again.

The rocker arms in your video look very close to the sifton rocker arms that I just bought that don't seem to be fitting properly. they're a little bit longer than the factory rocker arms that I have. They're like a 16th of an inch longer so the big fat spacer doesn't bottom out on the raised shaft boss. So I can't simulate my end play at all and that's why it is binding up when I tighten the nut. I bought a set of four rocker arms with shafts. Are the rocker arms different lengths and specific to a particular shaft?
@pacificmike95018 күн бұрын
You've got a problem that needs to be looked at. I'm not sure what you have.
@chadhamann83158 күн бұрын
I figured out why my rocker arms were binding up when I tighten the night after assembling them dry with only the large spacer. I watched your video where you showed the raised portion on the shaft protruding out past the rocker arm. So I pulled mine apart and checked the same thing. I measured the new rocker arm itself to the old rocker arm that I'm replacing and the new ones are a 1/16th of an inch longer. When I slide the rocker arm onto the shaft, the machined raised boss that the bushing rides on does not stick out past the end of the rocker arm. It's actually recessed. So chamfering the spacer with a 3/4 inch drill bit will do nothing for me. I need to take material off of the spacers apparently.
@pacificmike95018 күн бұрын
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Be sure the pushrod contact point on the rocker arm is centered in the rocker box hole.

Thank you for all your videos Mike they are extremely helpful and you are very knowledgeable and I appreciate it. I'm installing some new rocker arm shafts and rocker arms and new fat washers in my rocker boxes and when I assemble everything with just the fat washer and a little bit of an assembly lube on the shaft and I go and tighten the rocker shaft nut the rocker arms seizes up and when I back the nut off slightly the rocker arm frees up. There are no shims anywhere and all parts are new. I don't know what's going on. Can you offer some guidance?
@pacificmike95018 күн бұрын
It sounds like something is binding up, but it's hard to say what without seeing it. On the big spacers, you can grind them thinner. I normally do this on a belt sander. Don't get carried away and be sure the rocker arms are close to being centered. I don't like installing thin shims. They disintegrate and travel through your motor.

Whatever is best for you. In some instances, it's what you need to do if you don't want to pull the engine out of the frame. We had to do that on Indians and even a lot of big stroker Harleys.
