Quick demo using my smartphone so there is some clipping. Comparing the stock speaker to the Weber 10F150T, 8ohn, 50 watt, light doping. The stock speaker has more chime and is brighter, but with the treble adjusted to compensate the Weber get some of that chime back, is louder and tighter. Slight increase in midrange.

The perfect demo! Great playing and not trying to cover a hundred notes per second. The Weber was the most sonically pleasing speaker, hands down. I have many Webers in my arsenal and they don’t disappoint!

Thank you for convincing me to stick with the stock C10R. I recently tried a Celestion Gold 10" and it was too warm, lost a little punch and chime of the original. Many good speakers, but the C10R is THE sound in this amp.

That Jenson sounds great. The Weber made the amp sound like it had a couple of blankets covering it.

I just purchased a 65 Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue and I absolutely Love it. I get my Overdrive from a Fulltone OCD and a Thorpy FX Fallout Cloud ( wicked combo ). I gotta have that Glassy, Chimey, Pristine . . . Fender Clean for my Vintage Strat. Nothing compares. Tone Heaven !!! - I can get that SRV Tone on: Riveria Paradise ( or close to it ).

I've owned a handful of Weber speakers and they are just too warm for my tastes. The Jensen wins because I like the chime. The webers just seem muffled to me. YMMV. Thanks for the video!

Nice vid Jim, I have a PRRI. Don't really care for the stock c10r. I have the weber, it's not a bad speaker but imho, it takes it away from the blackface tone. And it is crazy loud but it has a great depth to it. Also have the WGS G10C, its very true to blackface and blows the c10r out of the water. Not quite as loud as the Weber but it also has a nice depth to it. The other speaker I have is the Emi 1028k, good speaker too. It's alnico so it compresses nicely when the PRRI is turned up, but, it has very little depth when using chorus or phaser type pedals. But it overdrives great.

Thanks for the comments. I'm considering the Eminence 1058 but having played the amp now both at home and in live band situations and I'm pretty happy with the stock speaker. I'll have to check out the WGS G10C as well.

Jim, the sound of the stock Jensen C10R in my Fender 65 Princeton Reverb Reissue is perfection. I just want to eliminate the bass flubbing at higher volumes while keeping the the exact sound of the stock Jensen. I would also like dirt without pedals. Would you suggest the 25 watt or the 50 watt Weber or just keeping the stock Jensen? You seem to know your stuff.

I only tried the 50 watt. I think it changed the character of the amp a little but you can't tell in the recording. It added a slight bit of midrange and lost some of the chime. For my purposes the stock Jensen is great but I may test the Eminence 1058 which many people seem to like.

Thanks Jim. I've always really liked the stock Jensen C10R (25 watt). I think I'll keep it. After all, it only starts flubbing past 8 and my PRRI's sweet spot is 6/7...and quite loud. Also, the flubbing is a lot less of an issue as my speaker is very well worked in.

Michael Burdo an upgraded output transformer will tighten up the low end a bit with the stock Jensen. I had the TO20 installed in my 65 prri to push a larger 12” speaker, but I also found it improved low end response with the stock speaker. It’s still a low wattage 10 so it will still break but just not as flabby at onset of clip with this billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=1546

Thanks Dominic. I've since replaced the stock Jensen C10R with an Eminence Legend 1058. The increase in mids, volume, and warmth is noticeable. The bass flubbing is no longer an issue. I still get that sweet tube break up at volumes of 6.5 to 10. The Legend has slightly increased the weight of my amp but the increase is almost unnoticeable. I'm pleased with the Legend; especially with the Princeton Reverb Amp's identity remaining intact. I'm not looking to modify the crap out of my amp however I'm intrigued by the idea of replacing the output transformer. Is it something an amp technician is required for?

Hi Jim - enjoyed the demo - just one question - did you feel that there was a noticeable difference in headroom? If so, would you be able to play clean with a drummer with the Weber?
@jimslowey6279
@jimslowey6279 5 жыл бұрын
I would describe the distortion with the Weber as being more pleasant and usable (tighter) at higher volumes allowing the amp to be played at higher volumes. But I use mine mostly for home use (practice, jamming to tracks etc.) so I have plenty of headroom for that purpose. That's why I prefer the stock speaker. The trade off of losing some some of that fender chime to be able to play at higher volumes was not worth it for me.

Hi Jim. Thanks for your videos. A little late to the party, but would like to know if you like the Princeton over the Morgan (JS12?) or the other way around. Thanks in advance from Spain!

The Morgan, although based on a princeton circuit and sounding like a princeton in terms of the overall tone, is a bigger and tighter sounding amp. Love my Morgan PR12.

How’s it compare to the morgan pr12?
@jimslowey6279
@jimslowey6279 5 жыл бұрын
similar voice/tone, but the Morgan has a bigger cabinet, 12 inch celestion creamback speaker and bigger and better transformers. And it sounds bigger and better in every way than the princeton. I may end up selling the princeton to get a smaller and different voiced amp for home use and small gigs, perhaps a Swart STR.

The Weber is gone. I went back to the original speaker for now. I plan on trying an emincence legend 1058 and maybe a celestion greenback eventually. For now I'm just gonna use my Princeton for low volume at home playing/practicing and small gigs or jams. I don't want to change the character of the amp, just trying to get things a little tighter when I push the volume without losing the chime. In order for the princeton reverb to sound close to the Morgan it would need a 12 inch speaker and larger output transformer, and would most likely fall a little short. The Morgan is a killer amd and I'm not trying to get the princeton to be like it. I have a buddy who has one of the special edition princetons with the 12 inch speaker. I played with him last Saturday. His amp sounds bigger than the standard 1x10 princeton but without a larger output transformer it still doesn't sound as big as the Morgan. Somehwere in between, although a really nice amp.

@@ethantillotson4332 never replied, sorry. Morgan PR12 is bigger, better in every way. Great amp. I had a Tome King Imperial that I never thought I would sell, but after landing the Morgan in a trade it ended replacing the Tone King.
