This video shows the difference between a pair of vintage JBL D110Fs against Weber Neomag 10 clones. I was only doing this video for demonstrative purposes. The choice of which speaker is better is up to the listener.

Great licks my man! I really like your style! I have a ton of JBL’s from the 60’s around. But I went to Weber’s, Celesions & some Oxfords.

Perfect comparison. Excellent playing without distortion so we can compare. You have a rockabilly edge.

Great playing man ! I love the JBL sound, but the Webers have a cool thing to them also..

They sound good, very clear but not fizzy, nice bass response. I know what you mean on how you feel about your JBL's, I use a single vintage JBL d131 12" with my Bassman head and I love it, hard to be beat those JBL's. Nice comparison.

I really like that combo set up you put together. here's what you do, jbl's for you practice / studio room, something lesser for playing out. the jbl's don't need all the jolts they'll get loading in and out.

Did you have weber break these neo mags in for you, or were they brand new in the video? Always been impressed with weber speakers, just have to buy the right one for your amp. Thanks for a great video and great playing!

These were brand new at the time. They're definitely broken in by now though.

That's the sound I grew up on .. amazing, how a single note can transport me to another time .. Thank You ! May I asked you something ? I hope so .. in a small sleepy town in central Florida, I found a Fender Deville, this amp. was manufactured on June, 1990 .. within the First 50 made .. it comes with 4x10's 60 watt mirror top. I have a feeling that one or more of the speakers are damaged , I can't get a " clean " sound, and that's a must !! How much or maybe not change the Soul of the Amp. 4 JBL's and what model ?? Thanks and you have one more subscriber .. Joe .. ( the amp. is in Mint condition ) ...

Thanks man. That thing is really nice. Really lucky and honored to have it. I will say that boss's FRV-1 '63 Reverb pedal comes pretty close to the real deal though. I use those live when I need the reverb tank sound.

Great demo...the Jbls really do it for me...much more detail and texture and the webers are much brighter. I need some JbL 130s if anyone wants to unload one. After hearing this video, ill give up the idea of Weber Californians. Nothing like the real thing.

Great player. Great tone. I prefer the Neomag, JBLs are good for collectors, using them on everyday basis is asking for (expensive) trouble IMHO. Cheers.

Using the old D series is and expensive proposition, but, I have some K series that keep going and going and going.

Yea man any new speaker needs to be played for a while to loosen it up and every speaker needs it's own EQ to sound it's best. Got to find the sweet spot.

Can't argue there. Weber doing some good work ! Yeah , but we love our D/F JBL..And likely the KING of blending since The JBL will dominate the combination ! ( I won't disclose my plan as to prevent even more JBL D/F GOBBLING UP- cos' it's BAAAAD already ) But Weber is doing good things..SO, thank you WEBER for being here !

The Weber sounds better to me. With the JBL's the bassman sounded like a bad silverface twin with a blanket over the sound. The weber had a tighter bottom, better crisp high end and more scooped midrange.
@sguitar20028 жыл бұрын
great sound great playing no distortion to hide behind that's how a guitar should sound.
@aportilla0077 жыл бұрын
Seems to me the neomag are brighter and more centered on mid range, but the attack on the JBL's is faster and the range is wider. JBL also sound cleaner.

I'd like to know what the SPL is for the Weber speakers.

I agree. If I was blind, I would have guessed that the Neos were the JBLs. Clearer sound to me. And I'm a religious JBL guy too.

The camera mic is significantly further off-axis from the JBL's. That might account for it.
@harmonicsball895 жыл бұрын
The JBL’s sound more “musical” and I can listen to it for a considerably longer time and they’ll still sound sweet and nuanced. The Weber’s sound more exciting and articulate but not in a necessarily good way. They had a thin snap to them. Perhaps they do better after they’ve been broken in.
@WilliamSmith-dg5re3 жыл бұрын
I will take the Jbls in every way, but wish that had that snap.

them jbl d110f are rare even on ebay and with an org cone and nomex paper voice coils, might as forget it..i had to make my own voice coil for these - frustration x10 as the edge wound flat aluminum wire has to be flat on the edge to wind on the coil.. but if you get it right.. you have the ultimate 10 Man

JBL should remake the D series if they can nail the tone like the vintage drivers do. One of the best.
@sirbergersworth3 жыл бұрын
They cant remake them because all of the machinery and tooling used has been sold off....as scrap iirc.

This is something i've always been wondering as well. But it always kind of erks me that someone would do an amazing in depth review of the speakers without properly mic'ing and recording the speakers. Personally I can't tell the difference between the two, but I probably would have had there been a proper recording. The camera replacement is so different in the first video that it's almost impossible to properly assess the differences in the situation (since the camera's more central to the speakers in the NeoMags, they're going to obviously sound way brighter and less creamy than the D110Fs) Nothing against you personally as an uploader, it happens ALL over the place but this one is just SO specifically interesting to me so I wish there was a good recording.
@kbtube81255 жыл бұрын
and your post show you're a douche. mic placement IS everything.
@anthonyclarke20765 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the mic up close to the speakers just doesn't give that same room filling quality that a 410 produces
@Jeff-S5 ай бұрын
Thank not not using a ridiculously distorted sound. I've seen many sound comparison video where the sound was masked so much with distortion pedals making any comparison impossible. IMO JBLs are for clean tone. If I was blind, I would have guessed that the Neos were the JBLs. Clearer sound to me. And I'm a religious JBL guy too. Surprising.

Weber make clones of the JBL'S the thing is you need to break them in to get them sounding great.

Fuck 2X10's. Id turn that Bassman into a 1X15.

I'm guessing by now you've bought your own Bassman and done exactly that. Good for you!
@Phishboy267 жыл бұрын
Tablature Butler Actually i own a Fender Stage 1000 with an Eminence Red white and Blues. The 1X15 was a suggestion. It wasn't meant for smartass remarks like yours.

Phishboy26 - Allow me to give you a clue: when you respond to a very fine posted video with "fuck that - it should be this other way that I say for no good reason other than I wanted my useless opinion to seem important" smartass is about the very nicest term one could use to describe you. Obnoxious prick or drooling baboon are two that come immediately to my mind - I'm sure others might have their own suggestions...
@Phishboy267 жыл бұрын
Tablature Butler Ok. What about. I recommend a 1x15 configuration instead of the 2X10. Would that be proper enough for you, or should i just leave it as fuck it?

Sure based on this the JBL's sound somewhat better although the Weber's still sound decent. However this speaker shootout is almost COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS. WHY you ask??? Because you're comparing old VERY WELL BROKEN IN speakers to new speakers RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. FYI many brand new speakers have to be played through for a while before they "break in." After you pound on em for a while they sound even better/mellow out and become even more vibrant and dimensional sounding. Also SOME Weber models are well known to take a while to get broken in and mellow out and open up, even some of their "best"/best selling speaker models fall in that category. So comparing a well broken in speaker to a brand new speaker right out of the box is COMPLETELY UNFAIR and not totally representative of how the new speaker will sound once it is broken in. Check the web for how to properly break in guitar speakers. The info is out there. Then redo this test after the Weber's are fully broken in and then it will mean something, until then this "speaker shootout" is totally unfair and meaningless.
