I think the manual says to back off your link pin adjustment by 1/4 turn... there should be a little play so the bushings don't wear too fast... just like the bearings in the hub.

I'm in Tucker, Ga and am hoping you can maybe help us out? Complete novice to these and am trying to find out what the PO did to our front suspension. Do most of our work with our FB group, Aircooled therapy but we have a super beetle and not as many people are aware of their work, nor their suspensions. Ours was lowered but unsure how and now I'm thinking it could've been drop spindles. We bottom out badly and have bad inserts with out any bump stops so the inserts need swapping butvwe don't know whether we need standard inserts or lowered inserts.

If you use different spindles that have been used before on a 62 Volkswagen beetle do you still put five shims on each side of link pins?

I'm contemplating doing this on my 63 beetle. I do have a question though. Why did the machine shop guy advise you to put 5 shims on either side of the link pin. installing The Sims is the only thing that's steering me away from doing this myself. I want to make sure that I get the alignment as close as possible . Thanks

Was you able to connect the speedo cable in? , I just bought a dune buggy with this lowered spindles and can not connect the cable cuz the top link pin is about a 1/4 inch from the hole blocking it big times.
