It means so much to our family that these airplanes will be saved and find good homes. Shawn and I had such a great time hanging out and working with Jason and Joe for a few days. We made some lasting memories and friendships. We especially appreciate you sharing Dad's legacy and his incredible history and contribution to aviation. Hey Jason, thanks for the great memories about the Piper Comanche. I received my commercial pilot license and my initial CFI rating in a Comanche 260. The very first thing I noticed about flying this aircraft, is that the only slow thing about this aircraft was the pilot flying it! It took several flight lessons in the Comanche before I got a good handle on it. Once all the ratings where complete, I did fly the Comanche 260 on part 135 charter flights. Plus, I did a number of instructional flights for folks who wanted to get their commercial pilot license in a Comanche. It’s just a great aircraft all-around. Thanks again for all the great memories………

I really, really enjoyed this episode! The seeing a plane that had been taken good care of even though it hadn't been flown in years reminds of of my late father. He was a flight detachment commander in the U.S. Army. I would always go with him to the airport as a small boy and hang out all day while he got in his flight time. I went in every hanger that was open and marveled at the aircraft, Hung out in the tower with the facility managers Irish Setters and every now and again get to go fly. I solo'd at 13 years old and even though I never got my license I have loved aircraft my whole life! Seeing the two brothers faces when they toook the plane out to taxi was worth the whole thing to me, reminded me of good times. Thanks for the video, now I am going to go wipe this wet stuff that is falling down my face!

Absolutely love the 250Comanche! A ‘58 on my field is much like yours. However, it’s got two Garmin 430’s and Piper Autopilot. Add the wood grain kit (rosewood burl) and it’s super cool! With the LoPriesty 3-blade STC prop it climbs like a home sick angel! At 10,000’ the tabbed prop give 1.5” more manifold pressure and boosts the true airspeed several kts. 160kts true is typical at 8-10k msl. Fuel burn is 12.5-14gph. The twin Comanche (aka Twinkies!) are my favorite twins 2-160hp Lycomings @ 7.5gph each at 160-170kts! With a VG kit they practically won’t stall/roll (demonstrate VMC). With the Garmin G300 avionics suite, they’re as modern as tomorrow! I’ll take a Comanche over a Bonanza or Mooney anytime. The Lycoming engines make the difference. High TBO’s and often make it or beyond. Continentals seldom make TBO w/o a top o/h.

I still remember i was working under a twin camanche in a hanger in Cambridge in the uk (g-atsz) when a man from Spain somewhere taxied in through the hanger door in a camanche engine running and casually parked it between 2 aircraft. I became aware of wind and shouting 🤣😂....Anglo saxon words and things. Always loved the look of the single and twin. The twin looks bloody fast sat on the tarmac. Oily beasts them. I did a sheet metal repair under the di boot on atsz. They resprayed it and she looked beautiful. Just a cautionary note....be careful on the twin with the oil filters. It was difficult to get anything in there to tighten them and we sometimes had issues not getting them to leak......had to do the kill hand signal and have another look! Trying to clean their brand of golden syrup off the tarmac was like herding squirrels with a spade. Turns out the single pilot wasn't very happy. One of our mateys sent it up with the inspection panels loose. Hey from the UK 🇬🇧

My friend Norm owned 8230P which I flew with him throughout Arizona. He owned it from the start and it still had the original paint and instruments which he was very proud of. I loved flying the Comanche but I’m glad I didn’t have to pay to fill the 90 gallon tanks. Watch the bungees for the gear and ADs for tail and muffler. Age finally caught up with Norm and he donated it to the Commemorative Air Force. They in turned sold it to someone who landed it gear up in Fresno. I found a video of the landing and it appears the plane is no longer registered. I don’t know the details of the gear malfunction but I hope it wasn’t because the owners went cheap on maintenance. It was a beautiful airplane. Norm went west when he flipped his C120 landing on his farm in upstate New York. He was shot down twice in WWII and the second time he bailed out the B24 he became a POW of the NAZIs. Godspeed Norm.

The first ever plane I flew in was a 260C that my friend's dad had back in the 90's. He also built a composite version called the Ravin 500. I believe there is one flying in the US that is crazy beautiful. If you like Comanches you need to look into getting a Ravin (think it's called a Pcad now ). You can look at the specs. Non-type certified is way cheaper to own and operate and most of the time and definitely in this case, a much better performing aircraft and you can buy as a kit with wings factory built. You should be able to find a demo video on YT if you want to see what that plane can do. Having said all of that, I would not take any chances with that 250 and spend every penny it takes to make it perfect. Some call Comanches "the widow maker" , and it will bite you if you give it the chance... But that is just my 5c.

I am an interstate battery dealer . I suggestion is do not use a deep cycle battery for a jumper battery. Deep cycle batteries are not designed for cranking power. Use a good starting battery with high cranking amps like a MT series interstate battery. Also, Comanches are known for slow cranking of the starter. My guess is the battery is not in the engine compartment and there is loss of power because of the location of the battery in the rear of the plane.

Might want to safety wire that gascolator bowl nut, eh? Mouse probably lives under the floor. The fuel bladders dry out and leak from the top when full of fuel. If you change one, good luck getting the fasteners on the top outboard corner. Is there still a metal drain tube connected to a drain hose on the battery box? The earlier batteries were not sealed like the Concorde battery. If the charge got low and it froze in the winter, there is where you corrosion came from. Definitely needs further inspection in the inside of the belly below that shelf.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and it may just be for boats but.... On the older aircraft, Isn't the battery box supposed to be sealed all around the bottom of it for the primary reason of keeping the battery acid secured if it leaked??? Your box has a hole in it. I understand that current batteries have moved on from the acid phase and holes in the box are no longer an issue, but the corrosion damage could have been prevented had the battery box been sealed at the bottom. The only other concern is, even if the aluminum surface looked ok or good enough, it's still compromised. Nice plane though!

The sad thing is before Covid. Before sleepy Joe and Cumala. $32,500 would actually buy you a nice plane in the 70's-80's with a fresh annual, low engine time and ready to fly for the next 5-10 years. That price today gets you a 60+ year old money pit.

We normally check the oil and if free of contaminants we check the levels and start but won’t perform any heavy load testing or long runs. The next step of the rescue is the Annual inspection which includes fresh oil, filter and a full compression and leak down. The leak down doesn’t need done to start and would likely be low on some cylinders as it’ll need ran seeing they haven’t been ran for a long while. However I do pull the prop through each cylinders compression strokes to feel the compression before starting just in case it has a bigger issues bore scoping doesn’t show. 👍🏼
