650 V-Strom Chain and Sprockets Part 2

Part 2 of replacing the chain and sprockets on a 2007 first gen vstrom 650.
After the gearing change he had an RPM of 5200 at 80MPH indicated, GPS around 74MPH. For most people this gearing won't work, but he is around 150 lbs. so he likes it.

What torque figure on the sprocket nut? My dl1000 does not have a bendable locking washer so I just stand on the 12inch long wrench with my 90kg weight so about 200foot pounds. That’s a lot less than it took to get it removed from the damn shaft!! I had to use a 4 foot snipe and stand on the pipe.

The 650 is 104 ft. Lbs. I not sure on the 1000, I'm won't be home for a few days, so I can't check it. It's almost the same if I remember correctly.

What were the differences between the gearing changes, my stock bike runs at 4500 RPM at 60 mph . I'm going to the 16 T front first and may add 46rear

If I remember correctly, his rpm decreased by 600 rpm.

I just changed my front to a 16T and it looks like 500 rpm change. I'm going to change the rear to a 46T and I will be right at 4000 rpm at 60 MPH. the gearing is excellent now, taking low speed corners are smooth and seamless. Interstate speed will have engine rpm at @ 5000 rpm which is much smoother than the 5500 in stock config. Much better riding bike than without changes best improvement I've done to this bike. For those who think it makes the bike underpowered when initially starting out i'm not finding that at all, the bike is smooth and power is totally even and smooth on takeoff. 180 lb rider ........................JB.. @@VStromGarage
