Another great video, I always wondered what is was like in the cab of a working scraper. A friend of mine let me drive his Vintage Euclid S-7, but not actually scraping, Thanks for posting another great video.

From front (closest) to back. The first lever is your bowl lever, controls up and down which is going to change how deep you are digging or spreading dirt. The red trigger is to drop the apron closed as you are digging but it doesn't work on most scrapers. The middle lever is for your apron open/close. This prevents dirt from falling back out as you're digging, but you have to open enough to let the dirt in. Back lever is to eject the dirt, the whole back slides forward pushing it out.

@fllsmikeb 1st you drag in until the tires slip then wait. It's stripping loam so you can't skim in and tag on the fly or you'll have browns all over the place. 2nd you can see the apron adjust to the loading condition (wet top soil so open further to prevent clumping in the bowl). 3rd the only time the bowl moved (first lever) was when it was picked up after loading. Thanks for the armchair review though, keep watching.

That seems to be Cat's new trend, joystick everything. Makes sense though.

Nothing better than a loaded 51 or 57 tached out in the top cog. that rumble is felt miles away

@raceanoncr Glad you liked it. The G and H series controls are very easy to catch on to. Bowl is still towards the window, apron is on a thumb switch and ejector is towards the front to dump and back to return. If you have a bale it's on a finger trigger.

thanks for the info. now as you are moving the levers i have an idea as to what is happening, much appreciated

The cushion hitch lever is located by your knee. Since it allows free movement of the rear (and in turn the cutting edge) you want to drop it when cutting (and sometimes spreading). Once you are finished cutting it's a good idead to pick it up again for a smoother ride. Steering is via the wheel only so if you're going to use two hands on the controls you should be quick about it! The new G series has all your controls in one lever so this problem is eliminated.

Cool video. If you have a sec could you explain the three control levers you were using. I think i have an idea as to what they do but maybe you could explain for us guys that don't get to play with this stuff

@KingWJC Am I missing something? The only time the bowl is adjusted is for minor corrections to keep the cut flat as the tractor on the scraper climbs over humps in the top soil. The rest of the time the middle (apron lever) is moved to keep the wet stripping from clumping up in the bowl. Watch the apron cylinder and crossmember, it barely moves at all!

@vantagetes Ah! it's so nice reading all the expert tips from the super operators around. I wonder why they never post any videos themselves. Nice and interesting video from you. As are the rest of your videos. Nice to watch! Thanks! :)

@vantagetes Ah, right. Good. I really enjoy watching videos of big machines. And I do it a lot. And in general these super- operators are everywhere, commenting every video, telling the uploader/ operator how it should be done/ how bad things are done. What they have in common, tho, is that they haven't uploaded one second of video, showing us how great they are, and how it really should be done. It's all in their mouth. Again, thanks for your videos.

The D11 is the right size for this 651.The 651E is no longer made.Its interesting to see the operator work the levers inside the cab

I found that when you pull the trigger on the bowl lift lever it will close the apran during the loading process so you don't have to use both levers.

@KingWJC Nah doesn't bother me in the least, just wondering if you're watching the apron lever by mistake? Another favorite when you're pushing down hill is to drop into neutral and roll on the smoke so it looks like the cat is maxing out. Eventually they have their bowl right up in the air and they still aren't getting pushed =D

All the way away from you is actually float, so sometimes it will get forced up when you catch a bad rut with the bowl and you're loaded. After I dumped I locked it into float so I could watch ahead of me while it came down, then I opened it back up slightly so I could see the cutting edge.
@vantagetes

I take that one step further. It's not even a dedicated camera mount, it's actually the suction cup dock for my satellite radio, I just electrical tape the camera to that haha.

We are not allowed to travel with our apron down in case we have to drop our bowl in an emergency. But good video. always good to see how others operate. I always forget to hit the load counter, After a few loads I hit it a few times in hope it's correct Haha.

Scott Coleman you know if you ever skim a rock off the haul road or spike your bowl you're going to take it in the cab through the back window right? Close that shit!

You ever run a single engine scraper? The pedal was down the whole way =p (That haul road was soft and you just wallowed the whole way to the pile).

What did reach down and do at 1:48? Do scrapers have pedal that help steer? I notice that there are times you have both hands on the levers.

Uh what? I just watched again to double check and the ejector is back at the start of the video (which is the cut portion). What's this about 8 seconds? To self load (a twin) is 60 seconds, to push load (pushcat) or push-pull (twins) is 30 seconds each.
@vantagetes

you cant determine an adverage load time with scraper because all dirt is different and every cut is different. Not to mention that you have no way of knowing the condition of the equipment just by watching the video.What about the real world where ground gets frozen? Must be nice to work in the plus temperatures all the time.

@bachinski123 You must be a really good operator to be able to see what the cut looks like when you can't see it in the video. Or another arm chair operator that should probably keep their uneducated comments to themselves before they look like a fool.
