I have never operated a D-8 Bulldozer, but have worked on the D-6 and loved working with it. The D-6 was a nice unit and I loved working on it, being so happy on it until I didn't want to get off. I noticed that the controls on the D-8 is set up a little different than the D-6, but working the same way.

Cat's sure made it easy to operate, I saw auto blade the other day, to me that takes a way you mastering your machine, I learned it all in the ass, you can feel your Cat, what it's doing, blade, motor sounds, all go together

I operated D-7 and D-6 dozers and Cat 120 and Cat 140 Road Graders when I was heavy equipment operator in the Army in the 80's through 92. Seeing this new equipment is like operating a computer. When did the steering clutches change on the dozer. I doubt that the military Operating Engineer's do not have this modern equipment. I tried to get in the Operating Engineer's union when I got out of Army it was like joining the mafia. You had to know someone.

The handle under his left hand will act as a tiller level, push forward to turn left, pull right to turn right. When pushing, try to keep her straight in in a slot and running downhill to maximize material moved for least effort.

I saw a simulator on KZbin, on back hoes, when I was learning, they put out away from job traffic, til you got the feel, then right in the middle of the pipeline or loading trucks
