"No matter how they spin, it's going to make a sound." "I know that doesn't sound revolutionary." Well actually, since they are spinning it does sound revolutionary. Get it? Revolution? Spinning? Hyuck hyuck hyuck.

At 0:32 you can actually really see how the cymbal moves and sways quite similarly to an acoustic cymbal. It's not as pronounced of course, but it's really not bad compared to the more compact, smaller and bulkier cymbals like the traditional Rolands.

I recently got onboard with Jobeky triggers as I created an acoustic/electronic conversion kit. They’re incredible. Just so happens that I’ve been looking for an alternative to Roland cymbals. Seems like ATV will fit the bill perfectly.

It’ll be interesting to see how the new Alesia hats compare to the ATV hats. I am leaning towards getting the ATV ones to replace my Strike Pro hats. My SP hats didnt seem to suffer from the problems most people have had until a few weeks ago when the edge sensor stopped working. I’ve had the kit for just over two years.

A good rubber cymbal cleaner is tire wax (if you're also a car guy like me, you'll probably have it), just don't let it on the underside of the cymbal where the electronics are.

great review Justin, thanks! I agree on the 17 China being more difficult to play. The rest of them are just perfect, no regrets on the investment I made!! I play the 14 HiHat, 14 and 16 Crash and 18 Ride with an Pearl Mimic Pro on an former Acustic Drum Set (Pearl Maple Decade) converted to E - Drums. I had to adjust the 18 Ride to more sensitivity as well, however I heard that ATV specific pre-sets in the Mimic are currently being developed. Let‘s see, if so, the ATV‘s will even sound better in the future 😉

I feel Pintech have a great opportunity to take a larger chunk of the third party e-cymbal line. I personally love the look of the Visulite series, but having owned a few, I got some criticisms. Firstly the playing surface is a soft neoprene, not only is this a very unnatural feeling playing surface (more so than rubber) the deadening effect of such a soft material must affect the triggering. So, I think a harder rubber playing surface would be much better. Even a clear soft plastic sheet, as that would also lend to a better aesthetic look. Secondly, they should adopt a switch on the bell for their 3zone rides. Thirdly, they're a bit pricey, but I would accept that if they triggered excellently.

UPDATE: 1 year later the bell zone stopped working and i don't even use the bell zone that much so i'm back to using my 11 year old cy-15 that still works perfectly , done with atv and don't recommend getting them. Overpriced and poor quality. Stick with roland ,its still overpriced but it lasts for years and years and triggers better too.

Great review Justin. As you probably know I do have an ATV Hihat as well. I think the nuances between open and close are far more less than the nuances of the Roland VH12/13. I don't have problems with spinning of the top Hihat at all because of the cable connection inside, it provides the top from spinning. I do hate the power supply of the Hihat, I forget many times to switch the power of.😎Thank you for sharing Justin 😎👍👊🍻

I have a TD-17 module and I'm searching to upgrade my ride. I don't have a lot of space, so I bought the ATV Artist 12" to use as ride. The thing is: I'm not convinced it worth 240 EUR, which was a big stretch for me. I'm considering returning it and buying a CY-13R, which I found used by 120 EUR. How do you compare ATV Artist 12" with the CY-13R?

Hi Justin. I still don’t get it. I found the atv cymbals online, the 10 and 12 inch are described as 2-zone and the 14,16,18 as 3-zone while all five of them have two inputs (cup and edge). At the same time , you said that we can use any cymbal either as a ride or crash. I’d guess we can only use the 3-zone ones as ride cymbals, but again, why do all of them have two inputs? It’s so confusing! 🤷🏻‍♂️

I got this series atv cymbals 14” - 16” - 18” the crash and the ride I got the setup at 95% and I’m ok with it, but the hats feels like when you are starting elementary school and don’t know where the hell are you.. I have a td11, but planning on upgrade to a td 17 or maybe a new td25... will it work better on open/close action on those modules?? Thanks

The holey one makes no sense. The point of holes on a cymbal is to change the sound. A electronic cymbal makes whatever sound you tel it. Yesterday I made a 12" pad sound like a 30" china. All adding holes to an e cymbal would do is take away areas that you could hit.

ATV hi-hats are much, much better than the VH13 or VH12. I've been playing with each of them on TD30, TD50 and TD50X, and no matter how you set them, ATV 14" wins, and it's always totally obvious.

I bet that 99% of edrummers like to have their drums looking like the real thing. Who wouldn't like to have a china or an effect cymbal looking like that?! This is such a business opportunity that I don't understand why other brands aren't doing this. Even if it's mono, smaller, less playing area... why isn't Alesis making it's own china ? Maybe I'm being unfair, but isn't it just a different plastic mold?
@DouglasLippi
@DouglasLippi 4 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing your problem with the china is your technique. Seems like you do kind of a "tick tock" motion when doing quarter notes on the cymbal. Kind of like a down stroke on the 1 and 3 and kind of an up stroke on the 2 and 4. I'm not saying this is bad. Just might be why you're getting different sounds. Try down strokes on each and see if that helps.
