Love your story. Thanks for sharing. In 1998 I got into an ATV club. I was told don't buy anything else but a Honda. They said stay away from Polaris because of their belts always slipping and breaking and the center of gravity was more toward the back and folks would flip them Polaris's over. So I bought one of the first Honda with electric shift and began riding with the group. In the group everyone had artic cats, king Quads Yamaha, Honda and only one person had a Polaris. I want to say we had about 35 riders. I liked the height of the Polaris, the way it looks, the suspension at the time. To me I felt it was a pretty good machine. I rode with the group for a couple of years then sold my ATV to my brother. Now 2019 I want to get back into riding but now Im all caught up on this belt thing and not too worried about the center of gravity because by now im sure it is much better than it was back then. I am getting a two up ATV the extended ATV for two riders. My two options are the can am or the Polaris, but leaning towards Polaris. I know the best thing to do is to carry an extra belt on me just in case it breaks while on the trail. What is your experience with belts breaking?
@maraudermitchelli5 жыл бұрын
Mr Lariata I will follow up don’t be afraid of the belt.
@maraudermitchelli5 жыл бұрын
I will only comment on machines i'm familiar with. I owned a Honda Rubicon for 6 years, and my friends still owns an electric shift Rancher. For trail riding Honda's are second worst on my list to CForce. Our group waits on the trail for Honda's to catch up and we don't even ride fast. Honda's are awesome for working around the farm would never consider one for aggressive trail riding ever again. The best aggressive trail machines are Polaris and Can Am in that order but splitting hairs. Yamaha, and Suzuki are tied for a close third. If you want a good trail machine that will last, least likely to breakdown then i would highly recommend the Japanese Bikes. Japanese bikes may not ride as well, lack ground clearance or be as fast as the North American machines but their engineering is excellent and typically they have fewer design issues and less maintenance. They tend to be more expensive and have less bells and whistles but they are solid machines. If you clean your clutches every 500 miles and inspect your belt none of these ATV should have belt issues on the trail. If you use full throttle in the mud, and water then there is a potential for failure...even on a geared machine. I've never seen an ATV break a belt on the trail other than a secondary clutch breakdown. If you watch any ATV racing...endurance racing i don' think you'll see a Japanese bike. Drive sensibly, don't abuse your machine and maintain it and the belt will be no issue at all. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions i'm glad to give my opinion.

@@maraudermitchelli Thank you for your input and knowledge. I actually got in Touch with one of the members from our ATV group from 20 years ago he is now 86 and does not ride anymore and he also mentioned similar information about the Japanese bikes like you did. His wife was the one that actually had the Polaris in the group. That Polaris machine was given to their grandson and he now uses it for the trails and still going strong. They only use that machine on trails not mudding just ATV recreational riding. It has been a solid machine for them. Thanks again keep the videos coming.

Awesome video sir, and as always you do an excellent job editing your video's together! I like how you painted the wheels on your original Ranger John Deere yellow, it made that machine really stand out! I saw your video and i was wondering how would you compare a sport side by side to this one, I am looking to buy a Defender XMR but i do not do much farm work, i just like how it looks. I am from Romania and we ride mainly trails and woods in the montain. Would you recomend it for thar or should i buy a sport side by side?
@maraudermitchelli4 жыл бұрын
MrSogorul the defender ride is stiffer, it’s heavier and much slower than a sport machine. It is much roomier, more comfortable, upright seating and awesome wide open view. The defender gearing is great for hills. The steering ratio is somewhat slow for tight turns on trails. For casual slower trail riding it’s fine, if you ride fast on aggressive trails a sport machine is better. Test drive machines at your dealer to see which one feels right. I hope this helps thank you stay save 😊

I was between a Defender and a Pioneer and finally went with Honda. supper happy with it. My question is did you look into a 1000-3 or 1000-5 ? Seems more of what you’re looking for in a sxs. I loved the video sir. I have realized I work to much and really want to get into trail riding, ha. I'm in the AG business and have JD dealerships everywhere, the closest one being two miles away. So my question is, have you ever considered the RSX Gator? Or do you know anybody that rides that particular machine? Also I noticed you ride without a windshield installed. Do you prefer the openness? Or is it a case that a windshield gets to dirty to quickly and limits vizability?
@maraudermitchelli5 жыл бұрын
Justin D I’ve never seen a gator at any of the 5 trail systems we ride. I don’t know much about that model. Although John Deere is working on this model to show it is not a turf vehicle it has not caught on in our area. Our trails are aggressively steep, rocky, then muddy and rough. Suspension may be their weakness. But in May be fine for trails in your area. Recommend you ride with a club and good friend to start. It’s an adventure every ride. You can always sell the machine if you don’t like it. Once you start shopping please ask more questions.
