I love watching videos of this type with people who know what they are doing. Tig and Mig welders have certainly made the panel process much easier. I worked in a body shop in the late 60's. Back then when we replaced a quarter panel, the new one had to be brazed in. It was a lot of work. Excellent background music.

I purchased my '66 SS back in '82 for $1100.00 from my friend here in Colorado. Still have it but, can't afford to finish the body and paint, needs a trunk floor and 2 common rust holes behind the rear tires, runs and drives, 408 BBC Turbo 350 transmission, 3.73 gears w/Eaton posi. Thanks for the motivation !

Wish you would have shown more complete detail on installing inside temp support frame install points and location points and explain why and how to check for straight, square & true pf body.

Hey Mike, thanks for the feedback. Our media guy does his best to get everything he can, but sometimes things happen when he's off shooting something else. We're working to try and provide more of this detail, so definitely appreciate you telling us things you're interested in!

@@ClassicCarStudio My reason ---- getting ready to do the very same job to my 1966 Olds 442 convertible , but we are thinking of dipping the body & frame then dipping it in anti corrosion primer. Your so luck to be doing a Chevelle as there are ZERO repop panels for the 64/ to 67 Olds 442s so were forced to rebuild every panel with just small patch panels. I will replace the trunk & inside floor with Pontiac A body sheet metal as B/O/P are all the same but are different from Chevelle . Yeah a total nightmare to do a B.O.P. Thank god for Ames Pontiac & Fusik Olds or we would be dead !

@@hydroy1 Yes, even though some parts are still hard to find parts houses have been doing a great job of helping to revive and keep classics on the road. We recently did a restoration on a Torino and body restoration on a Mercury, and finding metal was no picnic for them either, but it's constantly getting better. The next time we're replacing enough metal to have to brace something up, we'll try to do a video on where / how / why that's done. Best of luck with your Olds, those 442s are great cars.

@@ClassicCarStudio My 66 Olds convert is a factory A/C car as well ( different firewall cut outs for heater core VERY rare for a 66 convert 442 !!! ) That's why we really want to save the old girl, not many A/C convert 442s from 64 to 67 built with factory A/C at all. Most all 442s before 68 were non air. I have two 66 olds 442s a 2 door post sports coup H/T and this A/C convert we are doing our best to restore. I really like them, but they are more difficult to keep on the road then a Chevy as nobody/ very few, have parts for Buick/ Olds/ Pontiac. Even simple parts like a water pump for the 64 to 67 Olds short neck can be a real pain to find. But when it comes to repop fenders, door skins or rear 1/4s ---- forget about it, your stuck with a jigsaw puzzle of small patch panels to re build what ever you currently have. Also keep in mind the 1966/ 442 front fenders are a one year, one model only front fender so we have spent many long hours hand fitting every inch of both front fenders in steel as they both were rotted out to the point even the back fender reinforcements had to be surgically removed from a doner 66 cutlass fenders ( different but can be shoe horned in to work ) & re welded back into the 442 fenders with the added use of replacement lower patch panels for the fenders to save them but you have no choose as even far from perfect, used 1966 442 fenders go $1,000.00 EACH ! Oh hell no ! 2 grand for two beat up used fenders ???? no no no no no give me that cut off death wheel !!! and my little mig gun ! I will build my own geeeeesis ! $2 grand OMG ! Shoot in 1966 you could buy BRAND NEW 442 convert COMPLETE CAR for under $4 grand ! ! Yep as you can guess, I am in no hurry to complete this car , it might take me ANOTHER 10 YEARS ! The first 10 were the hardest ! The wife left, and my dog now growls at the 442 because I spend way more time with it them with him ! and at this point, I REFUSE to give up ! The only thing I am really worried about at this point is --- do I remember how this thing all goes back tougher ???? Thank god I got the H/T to use as a sample !------> kzbin.info/www/bejne/qajGepSMqqhlhck

Awesome work! Was this two different Chevelles? Body come off stock chassis for sheet metal replacement. Then I see the back wheels and looked like aftermarket chassis body sitting on?

Don't you need to fit the doors to check alignment before welding the quarter panels into place
