The slanted edge at 21:23 is going to act as a funnel at the sides, and is going to send water down onto the cork. (right next to the side-rail). I'd strongly advise on putting "flashing" on the inner side of the side-rail ('boeidelen'), to cover the first column of tiles. This would typically be a lead-sheet in the past, but lead-free variants are available too, usually based on EPDM.

yeah was thinking the same. In Sweden we call it vattenbräda or waterboard to keep the water and snow away. You also have the endgrain of the batten exposed and they like to soak up water. Found this illustration n2n5e7i6.rocketcdn.me/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/illustrering-fotplat.jpg

Totally agree. 20:34 as an example. The way the foreground stayed in focus but the trees blurred out in time lapse had a nice feel to it. Another highlight that stands out to me was the camera mounted to a roof tile. Showing its perspective of the journey from the ground to the roof via many helping hands. The group & film crew/editors have managed to document the progression of the tasks and do it with a lot of style.

Guys, those wood planks by the sides of the roof are definitely allowing water to be trapped underneath them. Nothing is gonna drip on the inside of the house since you've put layers of different materials before the roof tiles, but... it's no good to leave that wood like that. You could cover those wood planks with those round tiles that go in the middle. But I'm still worried about one of the edges of the roof - the one shown in 21:06 - you can see the tiles get smaller and smaller as they get to the bottom, and that's also a problem, cause that water will flow right in between the wood plank and the roof tiles. And even if you do cover that wood, it's still gonna have a chance of leaking water through the mortar. But, that'd be minimum, and the layers of insulation and plastic will take care of that.

Nice work. Before next summer’s fire season you should cut down all the trees within 25 metres of the house. This would reduce the chance of the structure catching fire.

Yes the recommended is 50 meters( especially if they are eucalyptus and pines...) ....but 25 it's not bad....

Looks great, but I think the fascia-board might trap water from the tiles that would otherwise flow off the roof.
@kschleic9053
@kschleic9053 Жыл бұрын
The roofing paper hanging between the fascia board and the wall will decay quickly because it will be getting wet and it's wrinkles and folds will trap water, but once it falls away any water that hits the fascia board will just fall to the ground, so I think it will be ok.

Question - will you also be sealing the sides of the roof? the redwood cover looks great but still between the tile and the wood, there is the likelihood of water getting in under the tiles and potentially finding a way to wet the roof

same thought it will deffinately get under tiles hopefully that 15cm enge will keep that water out of the house but still a risky situation imo

So cool to see these tiles go on so simply and yet they work so well. Crazy that in north America we use tar and asphalt and then when it’s time for a new roof it all gets thrown in the trash.

Congratulations on the roof! I think it looks fantastic! Excellent design with the overhang! Jealous of the number of people you have working there. Much easier than with 2 people, especially as I'm afraid of heights 😅 I think I count as half a person when it comes to roofing! We are still working on ours. I drove like a crazy person to the Bricomarche to buy a tarp this evening. We could see the rain coming and half of our roof is off! 😰 The rest of the roof trusses were delivered this evening so we can get back to work tomorrow! We thought we could use the original trusses but they are so bent and twisted they were impossible to work with.

So addicted that you check your phone even on the peak of a roof (nevermind no safety line). This is how construction accidents happen.

i was thinking that too, but maybe they just checked online how something is supposed to be done with the roof i mean. stay safe, when working heights.

@@DEVINdevdev It's not safe but they're adults and they can take whatever risks they want as long as they don't endanger other people. But the phone addiction seems so out of step with the ethosof this geoup of people.Just underscores how deep the problem is when it afflicts even "hippies" who are actively trying to leave this behind.
@kamisama4206
@kamisama4206 Жыл бұрын
@@gorillax1374 There is no proof what-so-ever that what Frank was looking up on his phone was not related to his task at hand. He may have needed information about something related to the roof/tiles, and the only way he has in the middle of Kamp is his phone. Although I agree that he could have stepped off the roof before using his phone, unless you can prove that he was doing something completely unrelated AND in a way that he couldn't stop himself, then your comment is void. And you need to look up the definition of "addiction".
@gorillax1374
@gorillax1374 Жыл бұрын
@@kamisama4206 I understand the neuroendicronology of addiction very well. If you are are so attached to your phone that you override common sense and use it even when you're working in a very dangerous context, that is a legitimate indicator of addiction. it's like googling elephant facts while being charged by an angry elephant. Working on a roof without a safety harness is not the place to have your attention focused on a phone, even if you are searching construction facts.
