Rosignano Solvay is a delightful Tuscan village which has become more and more popular thanks to the deceivingly brilliant shoreline known as Spiagge Bianche or “White Beaches” that are almost tropical and often compared to "Caribbean-like", situated along the coast between Rosignano and the centre of Vada.
In 1914, Solvay, a Belgian chemical company, opened a factory in Rosignano Marittimo due to its proximity to nearby salt mines.
For over a century, the Belgian chemical company Solvay has managed the site, with the authorisation to discharge up to 250,000 tons of waste - pumped directly onto the beach. Although legal and monitored, this activity still has considerable environmental and health implications.
The factory It's responsible for producing sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, which is used in various industries worldwide and they do that by using the Solvay process which involves breaking down limestone in a hot reaction that’s aided by cooling water sucked in from the sea and run through tubes attached to the production equipment.

It is impressive the color of the water that reaches the shore of the beach, in the north of Spain the Cantabrian Sea has a similar phenomenon but the water is frozen ! Oh wow the water there is so beautiful! Looks like a post card. Pretty controversial I bet with the plant there. Crazy the dumping site is right next to the beach. But it is so pretty. I like this new format. It’s like vlog and video essay being merged. Didn’t realize you weren’t suppose to go in the water. I am not that brave.

The transformation from a beautiful turquoise oasis that I have no doubt teemed with marine life to something white and who knows what chemicals the factory uses and releases into the sea. I really admired to this bravery my dear Mihaela, yes I would say this place looks amazing by nature considering the wide and white beachfront the fine sand around the area they're just wonderful. Dear Claudia, you are on a beach with excellent opportunities for taking photos or videos. But when I saw that facility and the white water flowing into the sea, I was disappointed. The turquoise water does really have that Caribbean look to it. Is that a dangerous chemical that is able to be pumped into the sea there? The country considers it toxic? I'm not too familiar with those chemicals, but it is a shame that it is able to be done and I am surprised to see people swimming in it. It does look beautiful there though. Your fast-food analogy was a good one to help understand why people would go into the water. It is interesting to see, but I agree, it would only be a one time visit. My opinion the public is told that the factory helps financially to the well-being of the city. The city would have to had to OK. There probably was a vote from the city council and the public got to voice their opinions. In my county their is a sandstone factory that brings in a lot of money for the county but it looks so bad on the environment with mining. Interesting analogy about fast food and people coming to this beach. Nice you got to vacation with your mother.

The views of Rosignano Solvay is just out of the stunning, it really give a Caribbean vibe, its really sad to know about all the waste that is being dumped in this paradise... Your videos are so inspiring and thank you for sharing this paradise view of the lovely place, your social message is so strong and hope that it is heard by many and somehow the popultion can be control and the place is restored. What a beautiful video Mihaela, I myself would most likely stay far away from that area. You say it's from the company making baking soda, I use sodium bicarbonate/baking soda to raise the ph level in my pools. Even in small quantities we keep people out of the pools overnight. I'm glad to know you didn't go in. Oh and I love the editing you did 🤗

I would not want to go in that water, I am surprised so many people are swimming in there. It is amazingly beautiful, but safety is more important for me. There are so many other beautiful beaches around that are not full of toxic chemicals. Thanks for sharing.

Ciao Mihaela! Piacere di vedere il tuo Vlog estivo in questa nota località a nord di Livorno! Non sono mai stato a Rosignano Solvay ma ho fatto il militare con un amico che viveva lì e mi ha raccontato molto sulla sua città e su questa storica fabbrica che hai mostrato. In realtà all'inizio credevo che eri in qualche spiaggia paradisiaca dell'Oceano indiano nella tua intro ma leggendo il titolo e vedendo il tuo Vlog mi hai sorpreso. Di sicuro esteticamente può sembrare un paradiso ma il calcare e lo scarico che hai fatto vedere aumenta sicuramente l'alcalinità del mare e rende tutto bianco . Sì hai ragione su queste spiagge ci si abbronza molto per via della luce riflessa ma poi l'acqua calcarea non è poi molto salutare per la pelle. Il gelato era al Mango? Ahahaha credo di conoscerlo. Se vuoi trovare una situazione simile ma naturale allora ti consiglio di visitare le isole Eolie e in particolare Salina dove trovi il "bianco" tropicale naturale dato dalla pomice finissima e l'acqua cristallina dove fare snorkeling. Buona serata e felice fine settimana.

Ho cercato le Eolie su Google ho visto che sono vicino a Sicilia che vorrei tanto visitare ma quest'anno ho fatto Sardegna. Italia e meravigliosa ma si, questa spiaggia a Rosignano e particolare e non sempre nel senso buono. Ti mando tanti saluti!
