I’m a drummer and I’ve literally only drooled on myself twice. Once was when I was beginning, I was counting as I played (cause we can count darn it!). Second time I was playing at church and it was a slow, ad lib section of an incredibly long song......I can only play the cymbals as chimes for so long before I just sit there with my mouth open and stare at people while trying to follow cues.

A couple of these jokes I heard 20 or so years ago, but they weren't drummer jokes then. e.g. The one about coming in late, was a singer joke, was also accompanied with "and always has the wrong key" and the Czech 1 2 was a sound engineer joke. And the one about sheet music was originally a guitarist joke.

Steve Brust (who writes quite good fantasy novels) tends to introduce himself to audiences on book-signing tours with "Hello, my name is Steve, I'm a drummer." It always gets a laugh, but maybe it's just the way he says it. (Also, it's true. He does play in a small band occasionally, as well as write books.)
