And we have 100% paint adhesion!!!! Tough one, when you said "here's the first attempt" I could tell this one would be taking you for a ride. Good wheel choice and the color is sublime! Good job Rob.

One of my all-time favorite hot wheel molds. As a child used to flip the trunk open with a thumb. Pretending it was a cigarette lighter 😂 work pretty good with candy cigarettes.

That's the sort of model that needs a going over with a Scotchbrite scouring pad, or coarse wire wool before introducing it to the caustic soda. It looks like it had a gloss lacquer outer layer, too.

A Hot Wheels at last! Your one came out in 1996 in a 5 pack, later ones didn't have an opening hood so it's a good base for a custom. Looks awesome now, especially after replacing those ghastly 3 spokes Nice nod to Marty's Matchbox Makeovers too...

This is a casting I'm glad you have done again Rob.... I have 6 of these in the "Old School" guise, with opening bonnet and metal body/base. Sadly the model is now a plastic base, no opening feature (like the AC Cobra SC 427) which is a shame. I had hear a rumour the 67 still had the engine underneath but the bonnet is obviously fixed down. Now have to find a stack of suitably sized rubber tyred wheels for all 6, plus a possibility of doing further versions of I find the model all scuffed and in need of rescue. One thing to note...A lot of the premium versions have a contrasting colour roof, often white if it's a darker colour such as this, or dark roof if it's a light colour. It's cool you went against the conventional......

aw man, what a tough paint. reminds me of my younger days when I could only scrape off the paint with a sharpened screwdriver; some paints would flake off right away, others needed force, and some were even done with a basecoat. anyway, beautiful colour, really deep with hints of other colours. love the wheels, too!

Beautiful job. I like the color you ended up with--it might be interesting to test sometime and see how much difference there is between multiple paints applied that way, and the same ones mixed beforehand. Although I suppose half the fun is the surprise... I don't know what that was originally painted with, but I want it for my actual car. :)

Lovely job on this one Rob. My all time favorite Camaro and all time favorite muscle car of all time is the 67 Caramo. I find caustic soda fairly ineffective on the hot wheels cars of this vintage as well. Matchbox cars are where the caustic bath shines.

I prefer the straight spoke wheels as slanted or asymmetric individual spokes always have backwards rotation on the other side,lol if that makes sense! I like the flip tone,could do something that resembles an opal but it would require tricky masking like camouflage and a bridging yellow between red and blue?:)

Nice resto', Rob. Like the colour and the new wheels. Also, I had a model a few months back that required three attempts to strip the paint and the guy I bought it from told me it was industrial paint. Finally, Camaro is pronounced with 'ma' as in 'mama'. Stay safe.

My brother owned the later Flying Colors ('76 or so) mustard yellow casting of this one, with the exposed engine as altered for all of the "Heavy Chevy" incarnations in 1970 or so. The other Spoilers from 1970 included Nitty Gritty Kitty (Merc Cougar), Mustang Boss Hoss, Light-My-Firebird, King Cuda (Barracuda), and TNT-Bird (Thunderbird). The 6 best Hot Wheels ever...!

May need to get some citri strip for times like this when the caustic soda doesn't work
@DJShadow19664 жыл бұрын
I've had the same with older Hot Wheels, I put it down to urethane paint and urethane clear coat, stripper works best on these.
@chassegallerie29104 жыл бұрын
This was in a 5 pack 'round '97. I bought it back then 'cuz it was an all Camaro pack with the most recent Camaro model (convertible). I still have them, they're all in almost pristine condition, But most of 'em ended up gathering so much dust from being displayed on one of my desks that even after cleaning them with water, they didn't really came back to being shinny again. And even back then, those wheels were ugly as hell, so the swap is a really good thing.

The Camaro was first introduced in 1967 as an answer to Ford's popular Mustang. It's pronounced "Cuh-MARE-oh" despite what Jeremy Clarkson may have to say on the matter.

My first car was a 67 Camaro. Although my 67 had wing windows, that might be a problem for the casting and manufacturer.

The newest release is not premium. It is a brown with yellow skunk worx 2016 rerelease. There are the premium Fast and Furious 2012 (1982) casts. Even though the hood is wrong compared to the actual Camaro in the film. Great cars, many to choose from!
