In this video we take a $6700 eBay 2004 Mercury Marauder and drive it over 1300 miles. We bought it sight-unseen, and dove it half way across the USA with no license plates. There were issues. We did get pulled over. We did survive!! I turned 40 today 2-17-2020 in this very car, on I-40W in Arkansas. The car turned 100K miles in Mississippi. This was so much fun!! I currently have two Grand Marquis ('05 and '10) in the garage with over 150K on each. The Marauder is a dream car originally used by the FL Highway Patrol. That explains why the power band is so high. They don't need the low end torque because they're usually rolling at 60 mph+ and they're beasts in the high speed range. Beautiful dual exhaust and the white dial gauges are very cool. It sounds like a great trip and so true about Marauder fans. It is a very unique car that's almost invisible to the general public which is part of the Panther attraction. The 4.6L is one of the strongest and longest lasting engines ever made which is why so many cop cars and taxis use a version of that platform. Ford did something very right.

These Marauders are so underappreciated. I remember this was touted the new cop car and... well... fuel happened, too expensive to drive but who cares about fuel prices if you hear that roar.

Hi randy great video! I enjoyed watching it as I'm about to hit the town in my Marauder! I have a 2004 Dark Toreador Red marauder I bought back in August for around $2400. It was out of an auction in Miami. I live in Portland Oregon and had it shipped here as I feel it was a little to far to head down and either tow it home or take the chances to drive it back. In the end I'm glad I had the car delivered as there were a lot of small problems with the car that would have eventually plagued me, most of which are fixed or soon to be. Glad you got the car they are a dying breed of car that we will probably never see made again! As for a final note that sound you heard was most likely your timing chain tensioner and guides going out on you. (This is one of the issues I have with my car) If you are ever in the area let me know I would love to show you around!

The motor for the air suspension has rubber feet that cushion the pump for noise purposes they go bad so check that . The pump is under the air box down in the wheel liner . Same pump as in a town car also . Definitely fix it 💯 %.

I own a 2004 Marauder from day one. Never had mechanical issues. I’ve upgraded the suspension, exhaust, brakes, intake and ignition. Barely any factory parts on the car. I go to the track and turn some amazing times. It surprises a lot of guys with cars that cost more than mine. And they can’t except the beat down because they started the whole thing. LOL 😂 !! I’m never going to sell it, its a keeper. My wife loves driving it. It still looks brand new. Same combination as yours. In 2004 they only built 3,384 Marauders. Mine is a low production meaning they only built 150 like mine. I have the certificate of authenticity from Ford. Mine is fully loaded. Gas mileage is great. It breathes better due to the intake and exhaust. Doesn’t burn oil. The compressor sound is normal. There is no code. That’s the way it operate. Never any trouble. All of my upgrades improved and made it better. The way Ford should have built it. I even have 4:10 gears and you would never know it. All and all the car is a good investment. I have fun with it. I get a lot of attention and offers. Even State Troopers love ❤️ it. One more thing. I had an event with a State Trooper and he couldn’t catch it. True to God story. I paid for it but I have bragging rights. Its a sleeper and Ford’s best kept secret. Good luck with yours. Thx 🙏🏽 for sharing. Peace ✌️

Love the Highways out there, I forgot how they are banked in the turns! We only have flat roads on the east coast, that's because they want us to slide off so they can charge us with whatever will make them money from the accident! Jersey even has Booby-trapped Exit/Entrance ramps! They start off with a nice curve then about halfway through the ramp it suddenly HOOKS! There have been to many truckers get caught in that not knowing the speed you are going in the first part of the ramp is to fast for the last half, and sometimes over they go! So, any trucker not familiar with Jersey ramps take note to be careful, go slow!

Side note, if you ever have an overheating problem, check the Fan Control Module and or the connector to it, should be attached to the top right side of the radiator, a square piece about 3 x 4 Inches

First off Happy Birthday sir. You are only as old as you feel. My dad is about to be a 70 year old teenager this year. Secondly sounds like you had a good old road trip Randy. No matter how well you plan, shyte happens and if lucky you have the means to handle it. Case in point, you were able to get brand new tires for the for the front and not have to sacrifice you dignity (if you know what I mean) to get them. Being a warm climate car I was glad more rubber things didnt fail. Personally I went through 2 lower radiator hoses in 1 year when I lived in VA. Thought you still had a dealer plate? If not, most states will sell you a non resident transport permit which allows you to get back to your home state and acts much like a temp tag Btw if you raced an Eagle Talon with a ginormous wing, that would have been a Talon TSi. Maybe was AWD depending on the year. But yes it was never going to hang with any Panther in stock form. Especially the Marauder. Glad you and the family made it back safe. Hoping your stepson is learning how to hustle by watching you. Enjoy your new ride and rest up. Missing the walkarounds.

What a ride! I have owned a ton of cars but Mercury has always been one of my favorites. Your video reminded me of my youth when my best bud's Dad had a new '66 Parklane with a 428 c.i. and we took it for a ride around midnight when we were just 14 years old. I was down in Florida just a few weeks ago. I have family that lives in West Palm Beach and Merrit Island. I’m am headed toward Texas from Kentucky later in the week and will be making that drive between Memphis and Little Rock. Love the Mercury content. I love to watch the walk around at the Co Part. I know a lot of fuel economy is in how we drive them, but on my last trip between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City in my '03 Marauder with a Vortech supercharger and 4.10:1 gearing in the rear I averaged 25.1 MPG. For a 4200 pound car with all of the performance (read: NOT economy minded) modifications I've made I think that average is just fine. Congrats on the Marauder purchase! Enjoy it!

@@jbncnow They are not going to shoot because of a license plate. The world makes them seem so bad when in reality they are generally good people. There definitely are bad cops for sure. If you have warrants they might draw their gun if you dont cooperate, just like randy said if you are polite it helps and they definitely wont shoot or harm you unless they truly are a terrible person.

Those cars cook the 7 and 8 valves for 03-04. If you plan on keeping it there are bypass kits to cool both ends of the cyl. There is a dead end on drivers side head. Be careful when you refill coolant - there is a crossover with a drain plug. I have this engine on my Continental.

Make sure you change all the radiator and heater hoses. Heater hose blows and by the time you get it to side of road, there goes head gaskets. Beautiful 😍 car!
