This is by far my favorite car that you've bought. My first car was a 91 Cavalier, blue 2 door, back in 2004. This really brings back memories. These cars are nearly non existent here in NY, the rust killed most of them off. I do see them in the junkyards from time to time. Usually they have been sitting a long time like this one. Usually they belonged to a older person who stopped driving or passed away. The nice things about the ones I see in the yards around here is that the interiors are nice. Car interiors hold up much better in our climate. I will keep a eye out for a tan interior car when I go to the yard this week.

Fantastic find !! I was heading out to the Chevy dealer in 94 to check out the Cavalier [ "for the cost of a hamburger, fries and a milkshake a day..."] to be my first new car when an 86 Olds Calais at the Century Olds used car lot in Van Nuys, CA caught my eye. I bought that car with 21,000 miles on it. It toured the family for a decade after I passed it on to my parents, then my brother and his wife and is now back with me. The reason i wanted a Cavalier was because it was cheap and looked good, especially in 2 dr form. Simple OHV engine and proven transmission. Lots of parts and service availability for long term ownership. I finally did get a Cavalier for my first new car: a 99 that I loved. A lot of people had a Cavalier as a first car. It was destroyed in a rear end collision by a BMW. I'd still have the bloody thing if it weren't for that. Your idea to return it to like new shape is great. When was the last time anyone saw one..... except in the cosmetic condition of this one. Those hubcaps are original, BTW. They peeled and faded just like that straight from the factory. And yes the do look like crap. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this car. This one hit a nerve with me too ! I love GM's FWD small cars, actually.

When my uncle passed away in 2009, he had a '93 Cavalier 2 door in Florida that was his winter car. It had 53,000 miles on it. When I got to Florida, as I inherited his mobile home and the Cavalier, the car had been sitting for about 18 months. I got it to crank but it would not start. Called AAA and had it towed to their garage. Diagnosis was that it needed a fuel pump. Because I was on a limited time frame and didn't know when I would get to Florida again, I didn't want to spend the money on it and then have it sit another year or possibly more before I returned. As it turned out, the tow truck driver was looking for a vehicle for a friend of his - single mother with a child - who needed a car, I ended up just giving the car to her and the tow driver said he would put a new pump in it for her. The car was really in decent shape but I had no use for it. If it had been in Maine where I live, I would have fixed it and sold it.
