T.J Houshmandzadeh: There’s nothing Bears' Rome Odunze can’t do | Parkins & Spiegel

In an insightful interview, former Pro Bowl receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh detailed what makes new Bears receiver Rome Odunze special and why he can't be compared to other NFL receivers such as Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson. Houshmandzadeh also explained how he helped coordinator Odunze's recent workout with Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, receiver DJ Moore and receiver Keenan Allen.

Pukas HS tape was so insane 😂 dude had the most wild vertical leap I’ve seen a player do for jump balls. Him and Rome were both UW players and that’s my team so I watched them both since their HS days and they were my 2 favorite prospects of all time, sad Puka had to leave and they didn’t use him correctly with the old staff, he should have been WR1 the moment he stepped in but they wanted to push a seniority system and cost us badly that year cuz the other WRs were all mid

Those comparisons were stupid. Garrett Wilson is barely over 6ft tall and does not even weigh 200 pounds. Odunze is 6ft 3 215. Terrell Owens is a good comp if everything pans out

As a bears fan, I never thought I would say this but we have so many weapons on offense the toughest part will be making sure we run plays for all of our weapons. We probably will see more zone than man cuz who you gonna double Moore and Allen have proven they can beat man coverage. We ran the ball well too. It's going to fun to watch this team grow!

People only see Rome for his contested catching ability but he worked at that. In 2022-2023 he was strictly known for his route running and wasn’t a good contested catcher. He is a complete wr who doesn’t get nearly enough credit for his route running. He is not just a contested catch merchant. He can really do it all.

I have to tell you - I have looked at a LOT of Rome's targets MULTIPLE times.... The dude catches EVERYTHING in reach a WIDE radius (that I think can get wider)! I can NOT recall a defender digging out the ball. And he has REALLY late hands. Defenders playing his hands will loses. Playing the eyes is dangerous, but you can get away with it for now. Not for long. I say he's faster than quick, but he is SMOOTH as hell, so he has deceptive quickness. For those wondering Davante Adams - 6'1" 215 4.56. Rome - 6'3" 215 4.45. My ONLY questions with Rome - his RAC needs work. He's slippery. But he doesn't have the elite balance like DJ Moore. And he sometimes will catch with his body. I can't wait to see this dude in #15. BTW - my favorite WR in a Bears uni is Brandon Marshall.

People also don’t realize that because NFL defenders are that much better….its hard to create separation so you’re gonna be contested a lot…but Rome was literally the best WR with most contested catches in college. If he’s succeeded for so long being contested then he’s not gonna have any problems with being contested in the NFL and making those tough catches

I know Chase Claypool had his issues but I can understand why he might have been upset playing in Chicago because he never got the ball. I mean when you are a number one receiver and you only get targeted maybe three or four times a game you should be pissed off. You didn’t get signed to be a blocker although he’s a good one you got signed because you’re a wide receiver who could be potentially a number one guy instead you’re blocking most of the time it’s kind of fucked up but I can see why he might’ve gone a little bit crazyor upset and probably wanted to play somewhere else. Because when you’re drafted that high you’re expecting to play and become the number one receiver. It’s OK to be the number two guy but you should get at least eight targets not three or four

Can't lie Rome, Allen and Moore is one hell of a WR trio. Even if CW is a bust i.e. not a clear upgrade over Justin I think if all 3 guys can remain with the team for at least 2 years any QB will still look decent throwing to these guys. I just hope the Defense holds up and Flus doesnt cost the team games by his poor management that he has shown over the last 3 seasons I dont expect him to be a better coach because of better talent. We should have hired Harbaugh or Ben Johnson with this caliber of Offense
