So many of you have asked if the Kubota LX2610 Tractor will lift it. Hay Bales. Lift capacity. Now we know. Let's see if it will lift it and let's talk ballast too. Special thanks to Andy at Lawson Lawn and Farm. Cheers!

Don't forget you need to subtract the weight of the attachment on the FEL from the advertised lift capacity!

Another informative and thoughtful video GP. As we both commented on Neil Messicks video regarding ballast and “balance” when using the loader, the other important and overlooked component is the load rating on the front axle. Without that rear counter weight to help take some of the load off the front axle, early wear and failure will occur.
@Lackieestatesfarm
@Lackieestatesfarm Жыл бұрын
I asked my dealer about this exact same scenario a few weeks ago. The official answer was “maybe but you won’t be happy with it”. It won’t lift high enough to double stack the bales, therefore I’m every bit as well off with my antique tractor with the spear on the rear. Not all bales are created equal. Density and moisture can affect the weight dramatically. On the point of the ballast, with fluid in the tires it will keep the rear end planted. However, adding weight to the 3 point creates a fulcrum on your rear wheels and takes a lot of weight off of the front axle and components. Neil messick did a video with a BX recently that highlighted this

That was some great information Gord, thanks to Andy for providing the video and to you Gord for thinking to share it another way for everyone to pass it on some more and prevent tractor abuse and accidents. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred . PS: I was thinking Guy might have more lead in his seat to help his tractor??? lol

I've done it with my lx2610. That being said not all round bales are created equal. Like you said depending on moisture. And I can honestly say I usually use my M9540 for any serious round bail moving, I just needed to move some around quick and I wanted to know.

Even on my 75hp tractor (with loaded tires)sometime I put 3point ballast on it. 3 point ballast is important in some case. My 30hp JD I also put a bale on the 3 point to ballast when moving round bales. Works great and I can carry 2 bales at once. Feels planted to ground and don’t have to worry. Have a good week GP. 👍✊

Hi Gord, I think you hit the nail on the head regarding ballast but I would say it’s not going to hurt to have more ballast on the rear so you might as well put something on there, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Thanks Gord

Good topic of conversation. Total agreement. It always surprises me how strong the smaller compact Kubota tractors are. Best to be prepared, or over prepared for safety by having plenty of ballast in the back.

Good evening GP.. Hahahaha I was watching and I said to myself.. Hmmmm I wonder if he meant to show that pallet..hahahah And after I was done and reading the comments I got my answer.. Good eye Andy.. So I agree with you on the lift capacity 100%. I can speak from my experience on the size of the tractor.. I have a old International 544. it is a way bigger tractor then either my 2650 or my 1025r.. ballast is a must on either of them.. How ever the 544 with loaded tires doesn’t need it.. It’s bigger then Guys and weighs a lot more.. and let me tell you it can Pull .. hahaha I could drag either of my other tractors around with ease .. As always stay safe and always be kind.. Cheers. PS can’t wait to see the new toy in action..

I agree loaded tires may not always be enough ballast. I was recently moving 75 tons of hay for my son in law. Moving from a large stack outside to a covered shed. I was using a John Deere 6120 R with a fancy hydraulic hay handler on the loader. The big square bays are 1300 pounds each and we can move 2 at a time. This tractor is 120hp and a pretty big machine. I work slow and always carefully since it's not my equipment. The loader is pretty much as high as it will go to reach the top bales. I usually back away from the stack and lower the bales before I spin the tractor to change direction. This one time I backed and spun to fast with the loader to high in the air. At that moment I felt that big machine getting unstable on the left side....scared me a bit. Operator error on my part. My son in smiled and said no worries it would not of tipped over on that flat ground.

Thanks GP. I have a smaller BX series, and not saying they're "tippy" feeling, but they are tippy feeling. Ballast is a must IMO. I'm also gonna add some wheel spacers to get the back tires sticking out more to add to side to side stability. I only have 2 acres, but this little tractor is kinda like having a big wheel barrow with the front end loader on.

Another important video. Thank you. My experience with my L4760, with loaded rear tires, is that everything works better and safer with more weight on the back. With my 2000 lb backhoe leveraged off the back, I rarely if ever need to engage 4WD. Putting weight on the back also takes the load off the front axle, which means I can fill the bucket with gravel and not be exceeding the front axle load specification, which surprisingly, is lower than the bucket lift capability.

I have a B26S with a backhoe on the back - about 700lbs… without that on there just about anything i lift in the front is sketchy…. Because its a small lightweight tractor. You are spot on Gord!

You should have your logo made up as a stencil and paint it on your grill guard on your tractor it should look cool. Yeah little tractors are very useful in tight spots for sure. I don't own one but been around construction for years skid steers are still better for construction but if you know how to use a tractor it's a great universal tool for sure. If I ever buy I may wind up with a skid steer because of how many there are around for sale and the attachments for them.

skidsteers seem awesome, but not only does the skidsteer cost a lot more, the implements all cost a lot more. I think the stronger end of my 2610 is the rear end, and the loader is a lot more light weight.

We are lifting 5.5 by 5 foot round bales with a Grand L 3560. We have just over 500 pounds of Rim Guard in the tires plus about 960 pounds of weight on our 3 point hitch. The tractor stays planted, but can feel the weight when you hook into the bale. I honesty feel the LX series and the JD 2R series are too light for these bales. Obviously, you can do it from the video, but i like the extra qeight of the Grand L or JD 3R series for these applications. One other thing that I might add from personal experience. When we first had the tractor it had the Rim Guard, but we hadn't fitted the implement on the back. I just needed to put a round bale in the truck for another location for storage. I came in a little crooked when I hooked into the bale and one the rear tires started rising up!. I slowly lowered the bale and the tire went down. I went in straight on my next approach and the I was okay. I say all that in order to point out on compact tractors , you really need tire and implement ballast.

Good words Gord! Yeah, on my DK5310 with cab, I can sometimes get the rear wheels off the ground sometimes for that pucker moment. Do need to get a ballast box because I don’t want to carry the flail mower the whole time!

Gord well done , fortunately bale forks especially single ones. Its always a good idea to go one step up if you plan on lifting maximum weights in my opinion. A compact tractor like this is not made to do hay work but will do it for the small hobby farmer which is a great option for people keep up the great content

Great video Gord. You’ve got to have weight on the rear when lifting. That’s why I’d you look at just about any skid steer or especially an excavator, a majority of the back of the machine is a counterweight. There’s a reason for that. So you don’t tip over lol.

Great video topic! I know some people shrug off the notion of ballast, but those of us that have experienced ballast vs. no ballast understand why ballast is important. I own a John Deere 1023e (sub-compact tractor) and ran it for a couple years before I added ballast. Then one day I got smart and added a 550-600# ballast box. WOW, it transformed the tractor into a whole different beast. It's hard to put into words in this comment how big of a difference it made, but it was night and day...for the better.

A most excellent explanation of FL capacity GP! I have tires filled and will use a ballast box if i have heavy FL work. It does help reduce the load on the front axle while allowing the tractor to work better. Btw, love the banjo 🪕 Is that you playing GP?

The Bid guys tractors can carry more weight. This is probably one of the main reasons for buyers regret. Having livestock and access to inside your barn will make gate/door openings an issue with your tractor.
