“The freedom to accept reality as it is and as it happens seems to be the primary transforming experience of the spiritual journey.” - Thomas Keating, "Consenting to God as God Is"
To access a lesson that accompanies this particular video, go to www.contemplat....
This video is part of a complete online course, "The Spiritual Journey - Formation in the Christian Contemplative Life," available for free at www.contemplat.... This foundational course is offered by Fr. Thomas Keating and Contemplative Outreach for those who wish to gain understanding of the Christian spiritual path of transformation in Christ. It consists of 100 lessons, each with quotes, notes, suggestions, and resources for further study. Most lessons have videos and audios that are easily downloadable, along with their transcripts.
How do the videos in this course (at • The Spiritual Journey ... ) compare to the original video series, "The Spiritual Journey with Fr. Thomas Keating," (at • The Spiritual Journey ... )?
The videos in the course include most of the videos in the original five-part video series, shortened to include the most essential parts of those talks. In addition, the course videos include excerpts from other series, including four that Fr. Thomas recorded every three years in his latter years, which have not previously been released on KZbin: "Heartfulness," "The Gift of Life," "God is Love," and "That We May Be One." He considered these four series to be, in effect, parts 6 through 9 of the original five-part series.

Thank you for this message. Having a closer relationship with God in time of silence and prayer is something I need to do. Christ is working a mighty work in my life right now.

Beautiful video. This is very much what Theravada Buddhism teaches, and especially the Buddhist Forest Tradition. Deepening our contact with the calm and easeful "silence" that is ever-present, and the liberating insights about impermanence, unsatisfactoriness and not-self which occurs gradually within each and everyone of us. These liberating insights happen exactly because we dwell peacefully in and empower this calm, easeful and "silent" presence during frequent Theravada Buddhist meditation. We call it Dhamma 🙏

From 4:34-5:04mins Fr Keating refers to St Paul (Apostle) in Scripture. The citation for it is: 1 Corinthians 12:12-21

Fr Thomas Keating speaking as a spiritual clergyperson, grounded in God say's starting at 9:22 that the Buddhists recognize a "Sixth Sense", and they call that "thinking" - Keating continues through 9:55 that this is our chief problem! It's this faculty that needs to be controlled, and hence Scripture itself as well as all mystical teachers constantly say let all thoughts go, let God act...........

Communication: smoke signals, drums, messengers. Some good thoughts here, but divorced from reality and known facts. It is an example of a constructed worldview and belief system that is based on delusion, although there are some good things in it. The questions are: Should we seek to discover facts and evidence and live by them or live by religious faith no matter what the religion is? All religions cannot be true. Keating is claiming that Christianity is the true religion, and the Trinity is fact. Billions of people disagree with that. And the other question: should we live by fact and evidence even if we would be happier by living in a religious delusion?

Could you post the timestamp where "Keating is claiming that Christianity is the true religion, and the Trinity is fact?"

"Billions of people disagree with that." Argumentum ad populum. "The questions are: Should we seek to discover facts and evidence and live by them or live by religious faith no matter what the religion is?" This seems like a false dilemma. Contemplation is neither "living by religious faith," nor is it the "discovery of facts and evidence."

@@ksan1648 Accusatio sine causa. My use of "billions of people disagree with that" was not to establish a counter argument and establish truth. It was only to show overwhelming disagreement. Ignoratio elenchi. Contemplation is not the issue. Religion is the issue. Living by facts and evidence is a valid basis of living one's life. Religious faith is also a valid basis for living one's life even if the religion is false.
