So Luke, the reason the caves and cliffs don't seem any different is because the 1.17 update was really only an ore and block update which also added goats and axolotls. 1.18 will change cave and terrain generation since they had to break up the original update since it got too big.

Most of the "caves" part of the update was delayed until sometime between now and the new year and the deep dark won't he here until ANOTHER update next year. You can see the new caves and world gen in the snapshots, though. They're very cool!

it is HARD to get wither skulls but you can spot them pretty easily. 1:The skull is a about 1-2 pixels bigger. 2:When you hit a Wither Skeleton with a skull on, the damage wont appear on the skull.
