Literally bought my first bass guitar yesterday and before I bought it, I was looking up whether 5 string was better to learn on than 4 string. A lot of people said starting from 5 string was better because of the extra range but also that it was easier to learn from 5 string and move down to 4 string than vice versa. Clearly I should have started my journey with the 69 string. My range would have been optimal and if I can learn 69 string, I can easily move down anything else.

For the next record, make it a 230 string bass. To play it easier, lay it upright, put 88 hammers on the one end. To control the hammers, use some wooden sticks with ebony on the parts where your fingers go. To navigate the sticks, make them in two rows, color them for easier visualisation, ideally black for upper row and white for lower row. Then add a foot pedal that removes "palm mute". Build a wooden case around the pian... *cough* BASS and grab a height adjustable chair.

Probably slightly longer than tuning a concert harp (47 strings) which takes about an hour. Harps are a lot more practical to play, but they also don't have a fret board, which allows one hand to come on either side. Still, maybe this 69 string base could be set up like a table and you put both hands over the top instead of one hand reaching over top and the other hand coming up underneath.

Seeing this many strings on an instrument has me thinking... Imagine if instead of hand picking each string there was some sort of lever that would pull back and hit the string for you? Maybe there could be some sort of board that would have buttons to activate each lever, playing each note? It would be pretty big, so it might not be able to be hand held, maybe it could stand on legs? The board is the only real important part of it, so the rest can just sit behind it covered. Man, I might make thus mythical device one day! I'll put it right next to my piano!

The fact that those type of intruments sounds like if multiple persons are playing. But theres only one person. And that's amazing.

Damn, that was an incredible groove...you never cease to amaze...that is one bad ass bass...What is the neck made of? Did you use locking tuners? Is there one bridge or are they seperated? I've been watching you a while now, it's pretty amazing to see you somehow come up with new, fresh ideas while retaining your same persona. Thanks for being a bright spot.

Wow! This is an amazing instrument as a challenge, must be really hard to play. For daily play is not so good as your hands will fall off XD and also looks like it repeats some tones or at least very similar. I admire you a lot Davie, you are the God of Bass, only you to play this peculiar bass so well.

I can see this becoming a common instrument of the future. I envision a band full of strange instruments and people in a Star Wars Cantina-like scenario. Good stuff.
