I've been going through some pretty scary health issues and having tons of tests and appointments ordered. 5 appointments just in the last two weeks and 4 to go before the month ends. It's causing tons of anxiety, fear, and pain especially waiting for all these results. I have been marathoning all your videos randomly while waiting for new ones. The other day my husband came home and said to me without looking at what I was seeing, "Again...that lady again. You've been watching her a lot lately, huh?" I told him that your voice, your humor, your videos overall have been a comfort to me. I can't explain it. They are keeping me grounded in the now. They push back the anxiety and fear a little especially when I awake from pain at 3 a.m and can't go back to sleep. I can't do drama, I can't do flashy, I can't do extreme right now. I just need the right level of calm weirdness that mimics my own. 💗

Back in the 70's, there was an absolutely massive Joshua Tree about a quarter mile from our property. This thing was about forty feet high, fifty feet around and filled with at least fifty limbs. God knows how long it stood there. When we had 100+ winds it collapsed. Also in the 70's, neighbor across the street was and 85 yo who had walked from Missouri to Lucerne Valley. He was a prospector and rockhound. Milton Welser, he lived in a house he built on the slopes of a mini-mountain and had built walls around from cut and polished gemstones. His bar-b-que was an amazing creation of bricks and gemstones. He once took me to I-40 out past Dagget and pulled off the freeway. He said there was a concentration of Agate in the area and walked around until he found one to show me. So, we spent the afternoon Agate hunting, came home with a tin bucket load that he polished into things he used to decorate his house.

The concrete around the mine opening would have been placed there by whoever (BLM?) built the protective steel covering over the opening. It's nice that they preserved it for us to see rather than just filling it in! I'm guessing that the two partially filled-in pits you found near the small cabin were where the outhouse once stood... Somewhere out there are two sneakers looking for their twins.

First had nice foundation but more than half dirt floor, better than a cave I guess. The second cabin seemed more livable if the temperature is under 90. The cave was probably a mine, maybe a miner lived in it, it would be cool in the heat, or could be hangout for campers also.

The Mudd Monkey post may have been a claim marker and the "Mudd Monkey" was the name of the claim. To stake a valid claim unter the 1872 Mining Act you have to place 4 "substantial" corner posts and another at the "discovery" on the center line of the claim to put everyone on notice that the area is claimed. The discovery post has to have intormation about the claim and claimant. Traditionally, that is on a piece of paper in a Prince Albert Tobacco can nailed to the post. Lode claims are 600' by 1500' and placer claims are up to 20 acres, usually conforming to the Section, Township, Range survey system. Probably TMI but as an old geolgist this took me back to my field and claim staking days in Wyoming.
