Beautiful! I was really impressed with their command of German. For 4th-generation Austrian-Americans, they enunciated like natives. I appreciate youngsters who embrace their heritage.

Actually, their enunciation was fairly atrocious! Still, their singing was enjoyable.

This makes me sad, because today’s songs are crude & disgusting, and I miss these kind of beautiful uplifting songs

Music today is incredibly diverse. There's basically an army of people out there for almost every genre and subgenre, modern and historical, that you could think of. You have popular and classical traditions from all over the world surviving and mingling, leading to fascinating cross-over composers like Malika Kishino and Osvaldo Golijov in the classical sphere, just to name two that I happen to know. Just look for a list of musicians or one of composers in Wikipedia. Their number and variety is overwhelming. I don't suppose you've ever heard of Sapho (with 1 p), Helena Tulve or the Sun Ra Arkestra. Just another three names that popped into my mind. Not that you need to dodge the popular to find quality. Hamilton - An American musical is both hugely popular and brilliantly done, even though it celebrates someone who might be called the father of some of the economic policies that are giving us trouble today.

@@Molybdaenmornell no, I’ve never heard of any of these musicians. I’ll look into them, thanks!

@Urjjo Bandyopadhyay A bit fast and furious, I think. Traditional "Western" music has long adopted external influences, even though these probably used to be predominantly near-Eastern. It would not be nearly as interesting as it is without them. You can hear Cossack rhythms in Prokofiev and Klezmer in Mahler.

My wife loved The Sound of Music as did I. When this aired i turned it on for my wife Denise to see in her room in the nursing home. It was to be her last Christmas as she died later after 215 days suffering from several strokes. She couldn't talk but you could see the light in her eyes when they were introduced and began to sing. Thank you for a blessed few moments of peace. You have no idea what it meant to both of us. A nurse actually came to check on her. She was quite while they sang. The stroke brought on PBA) ( pseudo bulbar affect) load emotional outbursts. I had to be with her every day when she woke so the door could be shut. This music became an invaluable tool in her therapy that she looked forward too. While this music player her screaming stopped! Thank you and God Bless!

My real name is Jean Kutzer. I was worried my kids might see it but my daughter was standing behind me while I typed. They didn't know the extent of the PBA as I kept it from them. It's ok though. Another miracle after many years. Wow!

Voices like gold. Oh, Stille Nacht, I remember it from my childhood Weinachten. Von Trapp children, you made my day! I am also from Austrian and German descend. You can see the way they conduct themselves, strong Austrian genes and values, sadly not found so much in Austria today. Fielen Dank!

I'm part German and just thinking during the Christmas truce the German soldiers sang Silent Night in german and the allies sang back in english and French the one time all hostility was put on hold and the two armies came together in brotherhood and sang and drank together.

My 7-year old grandaughter is in love with this movie. Our city is in ECQ right now, sometimes she watched it twice a day. What scene that I like particularly is when Rolfe and Liesl met the Von Trapp gardens and Rolfe has a lot of respect for Liesl. If young men will emulate him a lot of teenage pregnancies will be avoided. This is definitely a very good movie. I hope Hollywood will make movies like this again.

During the Christmas truce the sound of the German soldiers singing Silent night drifted over to the allied lines and the allies joined in singing the carol.
@thomaspeters58892 жыл бұрын
The American solders sang in German? You do know that is a song written by Joseph Mohr, an Austrian. Unless you're referring to the 1914 Christmas truce event (WW1) but they didn't sing songs. The German solders came forth from their trenches into no-man's land and called " Merry Christmas!" in the native tongue of their enemies who happened to be British.
