Pain can also cause laughter. When my son was a small child, we discovered that pain made him laugh. I'm talking about serious pain, like breaking a bone or being burned. His pediatrician said it isn't really that uncommon. Even as an adult, he still laughs when under great stress.

I think it's because we have so much to do and so much on our minds and we get easily distracted. Life hack- when this happens go back to the place you where in the previous room and start doing what you where doing there. Most times this will cause you to remember your other roomly intents.

That's because virtually all animals either have hair, fur, scales, or feathers over their skin so blushing wouldnt do any good so they tend to express shame, embarrassment, anger, or other emotions differently (dropping their ears, lowering their gaze, raising their hackles, etc.). Also Chameleons color changy thing basically is blushing even if it has a different mechanism of action.

The weirdest time i laughed really intensely was when i was having an intense fight with my mom. I was like 15. We were driving down the interstate and i was so angry and depressed. Then a bird just hit the windshield... and I laughed like a "crazy person". I'm a huge animal lover and looking back on this disturbs me... but i have to admit i felt better after laughing and it helped the situation a bit. Our bodies are so weird.

I've had "uncontrollable and inappropriate laughter" twice in my life. The first time was when I tried shrooms. So, okay. Explained. The second time was when I was driving home from work and went through a Police Check Point. I have NO IDEA WHY BUT THIS STRESSFUL SITUATION SUDDENLY BECAME UNBEARABLY HILARIOUS TO ME EVEN THOUGH I WAS DEAD SOBER. Needless to say it earned me some extra time there answering questions and such, but the cops eventually let me go. I don't even know why I felt it was funny, I actually felt nervous and I don't understand why I couldn't stop laughing!!!

Probably a combination of 1) self-comfort, basically touching oneself in some way that is comforting in an uncomfortable situation. 2) Filler/stalling, basically a physical version of 'um/er' that queues to the listener that you are still in the conversation but you are considering what to say. In an awkward situation you might not be sure how to respond, so you scratch while you try to think of what to do, to show you're still present and haven't like, had a seizure while you stand still trying to figure out what to do.

I laugh way more often when I'm alone, than I do when I'm among other humans. I do so, because laughing at them while you are with them is considered rude. Seriously, you can only watch people make a train-wreck of their lives so many times, before you stop feeling sorry for them. At some point in time one has to accept the reality, that you are dealing with idiots, and resign yourself to getting out the popcorn and enjoying the show. :)

I believe in the idea that laughter is a way of acknowledging weakness that people are not perfect; that's why we laugh at unexpected things because we don't notice or understand everything, or why we laugh at a jerk because they just proved how imperfect they are or why we might laugh when we're in pain because we realize just how foolishly clumsy we are.

Laughter as a stress release mechanism... An ex of mine could only process pain through laughter. He was a roofer, and one day I got a call that he was in ER. A load of roofing material had been funneled down the shoot from three floors up, while he was still clearing out the dumpster. His leg was broken in two places. I got the call, and rushed to the ER where they had taken him, and was able to track in on him by the sound of his cackling laughter. Like, the more it hurt, the harder he'd laugh.

Uhm I used to have a similar situation as well lol There's definitely something to it, after all, the Japanese do use nosebleeds as a comedic shorthand for expressing lust or sexual interest. I'd read somewhere that it had something to do with the fact that Japanese people had high blood pressure, and when sexual arousal increased their already high blood pressure, they would end up bursting blood vessels in their nose. I wonder if blood pressure is related to our sneezing thing.
@arthas640
@arthas640 4 жыл бұрын
I've heard of sneezing being connected with sexual arousal before and heard it had something to do with an involuntary nervous system response similar to a vasovagal response (a drop or rise in blood pressure due to stress or emotions). Basically your body gets into a state of arousal (sexual or otherwise) and sort of short circuits and has a random reaction like sneezing. Personally I cry when I get really angry, like blind violent rage, but rarely cry when I'm upset or sad.

I've suffered from sinusitis for a long time and I recently stumbled on something that really really helps: buzzing my lips! Buzzing them at a very low frequency and very loudly causes my head (and nose) to vibrate and all the stuff in it. Sometimes, I can even make myself sneeze if I do it right. Anyway, after about 15-20 minutes or so, I can feel the mucus moving around down my throat and eustachian tubes. Since I started doing it, my sinusitis has steadily improved and I haven't had ear infections.

I traveled to Tunisia a few years ago. The plane hit some really bad turbulence and I could not stop laughing all the way through it. I got a few weird looks but I couldn’t help it or stop. Fun

I believe in the relief theory for laughter because when I was in I think seventh-grade social on an exam day I just spontaneously started laughing so hard I almost peed myself and couldn't breathe. It was amazing but painful.

That’s so cool to hear about yawning, because my son was undergoing a series of tests, and the neurologist would give him a break whenever he started yawning, telling me, “His brain is tired. We’ll wait.”

At one point, every now and then, I would start laughing at something but become completely unable to stop. I would try to talk and ask people to help me while also laughing hysterically. Needless to say, it was really confusing to everyone. It felt really weird and scary because I had absolutely no control. I thought I was having a seizure, or something. Never found out what it was, but it was probably a side effect to one of the many new meds I was already on or trying, at the time. Uncontrollable yawning, mini eye seizures, and being easily startled were a couple other really odd side effects to prescription drugs that I've experienced.

fun fact: holding all of your mouth structures in a certain way can also trigger a yawn! when focusing on breath exercises in choir, a good 50% of people yawn at least once. raising the soft palette, keeping your tongue at your bottom teeth, and breathing through your mouth(aka taking as large of a breath as physically possible) seem to trigger it, according to my choir teacher. when someone yawns, my teacher just says to let it happen and not to stifle it.
