Gary, thank you for one of the best, most detailed videos I've watched about any topic! I have a 2016 Sierra 4WD with a 6L80 and 84k miles. Last week, trans was shuddering a bit under light acceleration. Then yesterday I was almost home from a short drive and it was like the truck went into neutral, kept going in & out of gear and revving up and I managed to glide into the driveway. Took it out this morning for a road test and it was fine until it warmed up a bit (trans around 150-degrees) and it did it again, wouldn't move in any gear. I tried running it thru all gears and turned the truck on and off and sometimes after restarting truck it would intermittently engage, so I kept doing that and I made it home. No codes. I'm guessing this is the issue, so I'll pop the valve body off tomorrow. Thanks again!

@GaryFerraro I'll check that today, things were a little hectic just trying to get it to move. But reverse might've been gone too. @@GaryFerraro I just test drove that thing for over an hour. All different speeds, sat in park for awhile, sat with it in gear for awhile, got the trans up to 176-degrees, etc. and couldn't get it malfunction; other than a little shudder or delayed shifting here and there. So I still can't say for sure whether I always have reverse or not. It definitely makes some whining-ish noise when cold and when slowly accelerating and you let off the gas, which I never noticed before - but I always have the radio on. After all that, I rechecked for DTC's and there are still none. I'm thinking I should go ahead and pull the valve body and examine the check balls and hope that's what it is, unless you have another thought. Thanks Gary!

After the pan and filter are dropped, you need to pull the sleeve out or the valvebody will not come down and i wouldn't want for you to break the TCM. There are 6 bolts the hold the valvebody to the case, a special socket is needed, the size is EP10 Like a torx plus socket. The tcm will need to be unbolted from the valvebody, then the valvebody can be unbolted and split apart

If I let the truck warm up about 1-2 minutes first, it definitely is not so bad. If I drive the car up to temp, then turn it off, then restart it, there are no issues and engagement occurs right away. Gary, I have the same year escalade and originally I had this problem. Went in a transmission shop and they told me all that was bad was TCM and replaced this 7 times and end up taking it to the dealership twice. replaced brake switch and the cam actuator. Now I have engine light on with p0700 code and D solenoid stuck code on and it stays in limp mode with engine light on. Yes the TCM was Re-Flashed and had all the current updates to PCM. What should I do now? You think the changing worn out check ball fix my issues?

Hey Gary , I had this same issue and took everything apart and found the check ball stuck in the separator plate. Thanks for the video. I have a issue now that I can’t start the truck. When I was done adding fluid and about to start the truck the gear selector was on M5, I left it in park before I pulled the valve body. I tried shifting into park and lost the line under the PRNDM part of the cluster. Do you have an idea of what could be broken or not done correctly?
@GaryFerraro5 жыл бұрын
you either missed the manual valve or did not hook up the manual lever position switch, that gets hooked to the manual valve and the manual valve goes into the linkage to select the gears

hi I had a question I have a 2006 corvette with 6l80 and I'm getting a code P0777 "solenoid b stuck on" put the car in drive does not move, put it in manual mode 1 and 2 does not move put in 3rd takes off fine then throws itself in limp mode, I pulled the pan the fluid was dirty no shavings or anything but quite a bit of clutch dust on magnet, I put new fluid and filter in reset it again still does same code, what does that solenoid b stuck on mean and what can it be
@GaryFerraro8 жыл бұрын
This code is more of a hydraulic problem, not so much eletrical problem. The code shows probably because the car is not moving, if reverse is ok, first thing i would do is drop out the valvebody, disassemble it and see if the number one check ball is worn or blew through the plate.
@Danks_Automotive8 жыл бұрын

Valves could be sticking or dragging in the bore, there are TCC valves in the Lower Valvebody and in the pump, did you happen to take the pan down to see if any debris is in the pan?

@@GaryFerraro hey Gary I have not pulled the pan off yet I will check that out.
