Trains with mid-DPUs always amaze me more than those with rear-DPUs (Idk why)! Like that UP westbound intermodel train at 2:56.

Thanks for sharing this video. Nice job. I live in Barstow. My dad and brothers worked for Santa Fe for many years. The area in front of the Amtak Station used to be the main switch yard. I spent the summer of '68 working there as a switchman. In 1973 switching and classifications moved to the new Hump Yard to the west of the bridge and 'B' Hill. There used to be a Yard Master tower next to the bridge. I remember every time I drove over the bridge I would take a quick glance into the tower windows to see if my dad was working. That bridge will be coming down in the next few years to be replaced with a newer, safer bridge.
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Wow, that's great. It must have been even more exciting in the Santa Fe times. It's a pity the tracks in front of the station were removed. Whereas train watching from there is still fun, action always appears to be somewhat remote. One can hardly hear the trains when the wind blows. But I enjoyed my visits to Barstow on this trip. It's a nice town.

@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have an idea, because I have been in cabs. I don’t think it’s too difficult to control the other units. It’s rather earthbound technology, but careful handling by the engineer is certainly advisable. I rather wonder how they managed with multiple steam engines and crews back in those days.

Yep, that's true. It would be amazing to see them all together. I'm not living close to a UP line and try to avoid large crowds for filming reasons. So, these steamers still have to wait... What is a Tier 4 Credit Unit? Thanks for your consideration..
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
In 2015, the Tier 4 emission standards became effective for the major railroads. Any locomotive purchased since has to be compliant. However, railroads had banked credits for using environmentally friendly equipment before Tier 4 and can now use these credits to still buy non-Tier 4 compliant models. These are called Tier 4 Credit Units.
