The original war games, which I felt should have been 8-parts, is quite a severe and bitter story like the Web of Fear, there’s a scene when the Doctor says ‘this is disgraceful’ and the music added makes it feel like Time and the Rani. Funny they trim things down but will include unnecessary shots of the war base, Gallifrey etc, replace that and you get 2 minutes more of the original.

Yes I totally agree with you, such a shame they made such a hash of it, should have kept the normal ten episodes… with optional ending as extra..

I love Patrick Troughton, and this Tardis team is one of my favourites. If not, this wouldn't have been watchable. I also enjoyed the chance to see some of the sets in colour. They edited out too much, though. As you say, they edited a 4 hour story down to 90 mins, and as a result, bits don't make sense. 2 hours would have been a better run time. As for the regeneration, sure, it was nice to see Pat regenerate into Jon, but it's been done in fan edits before, and if they were going to add new bits why not make the cgi Tardis set match the set we've seen in the episode and why did they leave in the shaky Tardis when Jon falls out? A good film composer like Ennio Morricone could provide stirring, moving themes but also knew when to shut up. Silence can be as effective as a full orchestral accompaniment. Much of the new series music is horribly audible wallpaper.

I totally agree with you. I quite like the colourisation. Editing gets far too fast towards the end. I don't agree with what they have done with The War Chief

The only thing I was annoyed about was the music when the war chief appeared on screen they used the master theme from the new series and the regeneration from troughton to pertwee was fanmade years ago and its on KZbin other than those things I enjoyed it more than the daleks in color which wasn't as good as the war games

I don't thick 90 minutes can justify Patrick Troughton 10 episode finale and Terreance Dicks would of been so upset. If they must do properly

The inter cutting between scenes ids quite patronising to assume a modern audience can’t deal with long scenes. I also don’t enjoy the audacity to force an audience to assume the War Chief is the Master. I prefer the ambiguity of the War Chief. It’s a shame because the colorisation along would have been enough.

On the plus side, the shown new faces are all NuWho and the Doctor saying "what an incredible bunch!" is the most unintentional insult. The tardis in pt 10 when fleeing had me in hysterics, as well as a lot of background music being way too maudlin. If the story can't sell it then no amount of music can make it feel any more authentic. The original full 10-parter remains the better of the two, even if some scenes did look good.

I haven't watched yet full episode, but trial scene looks very bad. New faces were added very crudely, shots from new episodes are out of picture, regeneration scene is better as separate youtube video than as part of the story

If you read the bbc article you would know the reason of the 4hours cut to 90 minutes “For the first time, these original episodes have been meticulously colourised and enhanced with updated visual effects edited into a new, 90-minute feature-length experience to appeal to today’s modern audiences.” That is the reason to appeal to the modern audiences, also this is not supposed to be like the original as it also states “this newly updated version of The War Games offers both fans and newcomers even more ways to watch the much-loved classic story.” Like dude there is information for these things, i don’t understand how you can criticise on it without checking the facts or doing the research?

@ no i’m not saying that, i’m saying that like someone can watch it and not like ofc but if it’s coming from a person who is reviewing it for others like yourself then u need all the facts and research before u do a review or anything as ur not giving your viewers all the information

I'm not reviewing it for others I'm giving my initial thoughts after watching it hence why I don't call it review it just my initial thoughts immediately after watching it. It's my opinion only not to inform others, your "facts" I call a bullshit marketing excuse.

It was a total disaster but the colourisation was good but what a total waste of effort, too much good stuff was cut out and naff stuff injected into it. like The Daleks in colour I will not watch ever again I'll stick to the originals.
