Well, I'm very happy you appreciate the effort. Thanks for the nice feedback. It is true, there's no gain without investment. Sweating it out by running up and down these steep hills at 95F is somewhat challenging - as is finding good spots at all. Mountain railfanning isn't easy, because the long views are often obscured. But it worked out well, thankfully.

Thanks so much. The production of overlong videos is extremely time-consuming and I think most people actually prefer shorter vids. But I didn't want to spread this footage over 4 or 5 parts. That's why they got so long. I'm glad you like them.

Nothing extraordinary, just another high quality video from the master. There's everything here: nonstop action, beautiful scenery, huge freight trains and the faded UP AC6000 rear DPU was a pleasant surprise. I love that locomotive, the good old hammerhead. We even see two nifty Warbonnets too. I really enjoyed this long video and I can't wait to see the second part. :)

Many thanks! I totally agree. There's plenty of action in this video and one has to watch it completely in order to avoid missing some "goodies". The AC60 came as a surprise; I wasn't sure if UP was still using them. I was also surprised to see the many ES44DCs on BNSF trains. I was more used to seeing AC power on their rails. Yeah, the Warbonnets... How much I wished Santa Fe would still be around...

Thank you! That's right, I like the scenery as much as I like the trains. The combination of both creates outstanding adventures. Climbing those hills at 95 F and no shade made it really a special experience :) But the wind blew which was nice. I really enjoyed it.

Hi MBMARS I do not know where to begin I mean this sincerely I absolutely loved this video. The scenery and the trains were fantastic. I like the train at the beginning with the mountains in the back ground stunning. I like the view of two level of trains and two views of the high way nicely done. I love the train with the eight engines the sound must fantastic. this video is a definite rewatch so much going on. I will probably never get to this location I thank you so very much for this video.

Hi Joe, glad you enjoyed this one, too! You're perfectly right: There are so many details to discover in this video. Even though I spent many hours producing it, I probably missed seeing some interesting stuff myself. I also have to watch it again! Finding good spots in the mountains is not easy, but I was happy with the hills I "conquered and held" for several hours. Part two will also be interesting, so stay tuned! :)

Nice, you should do it. Yosemite is more than 6 hours by car. I was tempted to go there as well, but my tight schedule didn't permit it, unfortunately.

Thanks, Mick. As always, I'm very happy you and many others enjoy watching the videos. That means a lot to me, given the hard work that's necessary "behind the scenes" when producing these videos. To answer your question, I haven't had any encounter with an unfriendly animal recently. I had some mixed feelings, when a grizzly crossed my path last year in Montana, though... Snakes are less of a concern during the day, because they don't like to be "outdoors" in extreme heat. I definitely make sure not to get too close to potential hideouts of them.

Not sure what you mean by "union" in this context (in railroad terms unions are associations of railroad employees). BNSF is a railroad company that originated from a merger of Burlington Northern (BN) and ATSF (the "Santa Fe"=SF) several decades ago.

AWESOME video. Spectacular scenery and a very plentiful supply of trains in a part of the world I probably will never see. I have one question from a uninformed Aussie regarding trains travelling on the UP Mojave Sub. This line is the former SP Palmdale Cutoff. I would have thought that trains going downhill from northern California towards Colton and the Sunset Route would be eastbound. Which is the correct direction?

Thank you! UP considers the Mojave Sub a north-south line and it runs from Bakersfield to Keenbrook (which is at the southern end of Cajon Pass at West Colton).

Thanks! At Tehachapi it was about 2 trains per hour and at Cajon 4 on average.

Great scenery, a lot of railfanning. I prefer the BNSF over Union Pacific. I was always a Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, Burlington,Great Northern,Rio Grande,Southern Pacific for the Western railroads fan. I am doing a model railroad in N scale. My ultimate goal is to do the entire West Coast from the San Diego area all the way up to Vancouver,BC,Canada. My model railroad is the Pacific West Coast Railroad. My power will be Santa Fe,Southern Pacific,Western Pacific,Burlington Northern,BNSF,Union Pacific,BCRail,CPRail & Canadian National as well as the San Diego & Imperial Valley.

That's very cool. I keep my layout somewhat more universal, but I can also simulate the western roads. BNSF looks great in the mountains, but nothing beats Santa Fe :)

I just found your video and it is one of the best I have seen on Cajon Pass at the 11 minute 48 second mark you can clearly see hill582 A must see place to visit I consider Cajon Pass my playground I have a jeep I go back there all the time I know the places you’ve been in fact I seen a guy in a class C motorhome filming from where you were at I would love to take you to Sullivans curve and some of the other places you didn’t get to film from I can show you how to get to them places so that others can enjoy I can also take you to different places once again so others can enjoy I will be up there tomorrow there is a memorial near the Mormon rocks off main track number three the original track that I need to go water and clean up the 4014 big boy is coming into town in a couple of weeks

I haven/t been to Hill 582, because I was worried to get stuck driving there from "my hill" with the FWD rental in that lose desert sand. A jeep makes perfect sense :) I saw one cruising around while I was there; maybe it was you! I really liked my spot, because I had great views of all four tracks in all directions. Thanks for your offer to show me the "secret spots", but I live in Georgia and spent only a few days in the area during my visit in June. I wish I could just "come by", also for the 4014 run-by. It will be quite a remarkable sight. I suppose all hills will be occupied by people, which must look funny.
