I think Edey, whatever his defensive deficiencies, will star. He's huge, strong, coordinated unstoppable down low and he keeps getting better. People are overdoing the new NBA style stuff. Just watch the games, he dominates every one of them - he's always the focus of attention. Also this is the best B Ball video I've ever seen: the angle, the sound, the proximity to the court. You get to see, hear, and feel the quickness and intensity of the game.

The thing is people very commonly say Zach Edey is slow latterly... He's playing with Chet here (who's supposed to be fast for a center... Edey is also a center... He'll be primarily guarding guys like Chet, Jokic, Wenmby memby, Nurkic, and Joel)... He's not really any slower than them or Brook Lopez... I just don't see the deficiencies that others do in him.

Although Edey is slower, if developed I think his upside potential is greater than Holmgren's. Holmgrem, although more skilled at the moment, and not to take anything away from him looks injury prone. Edey on the other hand looks much more durable, and he is gaining skill with every game. NBA teams should consider how their investment will pay off and Edey looks like a durable foundational piece to any team. If he goes low in the draft, he could turn out to be a much better investment in terms of value over the long run. This guy has the potential to be a hybrid mix between the powerful Shaq and the monster Yao Ming. Look no further to Yanis for a similar transformation from raw talent into superstar.

@@NPAMike shooting threes, mid range shots and dribbling can be taught. Look at brook lopez, he's a more durable player that can shoot the three and protect the paint. Embid in terms of build is a cross between kd and lopez and he's also skilled but not so quick. I think edey when he gets a bit quicker with better conditioning and develops his shooting and dribbling, he'll be a rising star. Also, never did I say that edey was better than holmgren, but that his potential ceiling is.

@@NPAMike By traditional big you mean the kind that every championship has ever used? People are overemphasizing the 3, and underemphasizing the size. KP isn't a great center because Kyle Lowry can push him off the block and make him take a fadeaway 2. Chet wont compete doing this either against an opponent stepping in to lightly contested threes. Chet has great potential as a KG style player, he's actually getting close to having that strength, but he's always going to need someone stronger to play C. These two are just not the same role in the NBA, unless something ACTUALLY changes in the next 5 years. KG didn't bang against 7'0 280, they moved him to bang the 6'10 240 guys. Chet can do that if he hits about 220, which should happen, but that's like 30 lbs. He will never be as effective against big guys that will be playing center, and even when he gets those KP center minutes its a big injury risk. Big guy might not remember he's cash at the line and just put him on his ass. Kinda why Edey doesn't have much potential. He will need to work hard on his athleticism, keeping in mind Gasol inc. are very skilled players who can dominate Europe still, teams wont take them because they aren't fast enough. He'd make a solid backup center that doesn't get as exposed by 2nd units.

Edey looks like he could scratch out a career in the NBA, he appears to be marginally quicker than Tacko Falls and more skilled but is still not a sure thing. Of course, Jokic doesn't have great quickness either but he does have that court vision. I'd like to see Edey get better at passing the ball and being a facilitator. If he can draw attention and kick the ball out to 3 point shooters, I could see him being better than we thought. Let's face it, the 3 is the main focus of offense nowadays, the Celtics this year winning and not shooting the 3 well notwithstanding. Most title teams nowadays need to hit that 3 consistently with a high percentage, plus they need to defend the 3 pt. line or will get rained on. Edey is never going to be a good perimeter defender so that is going to work against him.

edey is huge but his slow especially in defense, he should develop his agility and quickness and timing to improve his defense and block those shots.

yeah - he's already improved massively. I started watching him at IMG once Purdue signed him. Huge steps up in that year at IMG, last year at Purdue during the year and then really crazy improvement from the end of the season to this U19 tourney. You'd think you can't teach athleticism, but his agility and fluidity is much improved. I think just reps are making him a lot more athletic. Plus he's a worker, so you know he's going to keep improving. He barely played at IMG and now he's one of the top 5 guys at the U19, so just goes to show where he's come from and what his ceiling is.
