This is a great comment. And it's something we all need to lovingly be told. I was caught up in the unending cycle of trying to improve my theater. Yep, I was a FOMO addict. I upgraded my projector from the Epson 4050-UB to the Epson LS-12000. Honestly, it turned out to be a significant improvement. So, problem solved right? Nope. Because then I went looking (or in this case listening) for reasons to upgrade my audio. But about a year ago I got serious about fine tuning and calibrating the sound myself. It took me about three days to get it right. And now I enjoy the sound in my theater more than the sound in actual movie theaters (which I find to be so loud that it distracts from the movie). Dolby Digital, DTS-X, Atmos. It all sounds incredible now and I can finally say that I have a sense of immersion when watching movies. Other people also notice the difference. Truthfully, sometimes our equipment might need to be upgraded. But in other cases maybe it just requires some serious fine tuning on our part. That's where learning our equipment's functionality, capabilities and limitations becomes so important. At the end of the day, we enjoy our theaters, that's all that matters. 🙂

What I have noticed after following this hobby closely starting in 2020 during the pandemic, is that there is a “pyramid of discussion”. It starts with the basics and lower cost equipment, but over time escalates to ever higher and higher cost products. I have to wonder how much longer these discussions can continue as the market continues to squeeze itself into an ever smaller and smaller market segment. Yes, profits are higher but with an ever smaller segment of people who can afford the overall costs?
@KevisFilms9 күн бұрын
Prices need to start coming down or the industry itself will keep making it a smaller and smaller niche and will continue price hikes to keep up with profits.
@marvinabugov45799 күн бұрын
Agreed! . . . hopefully JVC and Sony will get the same message UNLESS they see the traditional projector market as one they can do away with entirely and instead move on to newer and even more effective technologies now beginning to show promise, but currently - still too expensive - but for how much longer?

I screwed a 2x4 (about a 1’ long) on floor joist, then inserted the speaker box (which covered the 2x4) and screwed the top side of the box into 2x4 support. Not sure if this makes sense but it does on paper.

I have the same Marantz Cinema 50 receiver and I just love it particularly given its use with Auro 2D. Find it better than Atmos overall but many Netflix shows only permit Atmos. Calibrated it using basic Audessy and find it quite acceptable. As for seating, I prefer valeur cloth. Less clammy. My seats are still going strong after 15 years of fairly heavy use: my daughters/friends and now my grandchildren.
@KevisFilms9 күн бұрын
I still have not tried Auro in my theater. For the win on the seating! Anything lasting 10+ years and getting constant use from kids a BIG win :-)

Yes, I am quite pleased and from a manufacturer not of the type that are being promoted these days. Didn’t know what we were doing back in 2008 when we built our home theatre professionally leaving it to the designer/builder, but sometimes you get “lucky”.
@marvinabugov45799 күн бұрын
My basement has an HVAC oddity in the ceiling that precludes my using overhead speakers. So Auro 2D does a lot to compensate for my oddly shaped ceiling in one corner of the room.

Your room looks great. Thanks for the great tour - We all have to work around what we have to work with. Luckily, I have a 24 foot square room with 8-9 foot ceiliings depending on where you look. Question: How far s it from your PJ lens to the screen? - You might want to minimize this for more brightness. - Cheers!
@KevisFilms9 күн бұрын
Thank you! Lens is about 19.5 feet from screen. I’d like to experiment with some better screens later this year and see how they may bring up brightness as well. We will see. But so far, this projector is plenty bright for sure.

As for the lighting in the Valencia seats, did you plug a phone into the USB? It cooks the controller. It’s a fairly simple fix once you do you it once, but extremely poor considering it needs to be done at all. After all that’s what it’s for but doesn’t work as intended. I had it happen to mine.
@KevisFilms9 күн бұрын
I have plugged a usb cord to charge my phone. What was the fix?
@MichaelHollmann-c1j8 күн бұрын
@ replace the button control pad. Valencia will supply the part if you still have warranty, if not under warranty there’s probably a cost for it. The wiring is easily accessible and labeled. Separate the back and seat sections, flip the seat section on its side, the bottom fabric is held closed with velcro. You shouldn’t have trouble, seeing as you’re a DIY kinda person. They will send you a video to give you an idea how to do it.

I’m still looking for some feedback on the MTM212M’s, they are significantly more expensive. Ground loops can happen with any amplifier and one single solution doesn’t work in all cases. It is absolutely fixable and you need to fix it, not just turn the gain down.

I still think separates should be the final goal in any serious home theater. I never liked the idea of a single box handling absolutely everything, just for the sake of convenience. There are a lot of potential problems with a box that tries to do everything you need, all at the same time. In the end, it's not just about tons of power, it's about peace of mind and not worrying for the future. It's about real dynamics and superior transients. It's about reliability, a good power amplifier should last many, many years without breaking a sweat. Don't overlook the used market, you can buy really good gear for a fraction of the price. Currently, I have a Marantz AV8802a pre/pro and 4 power amplifiers (2 Denon monoblocks, a 3-channel Carver and a 5-channel Emotiva), all purchased from the used market, for a total price of a new, mid-to-high AVR.

Kevis. Muy impresionante y felicidades en tus selecciones. Una recomendación: I noticed yiu said ur gain on the subs is turned down. I suggest you dont do it that way. For gain sequence and staging, it is recommended to have your gain (it’s actually an attenuator) at about 75-90% and just control the output via your trim in the processor. The reason is signal clipping. You don’t want your amp to clip any signal that the processor is ‘sening’ for output. The attenuator could do so. asi no corres riego.

Great space. You don’t need amps. As long as the receiver can handle the impedance load, which marantz can. Save your money Dirac bass control would be the biggest up grade that you can do. Or adding 2 subs in the rear. Also. The gain noob on your sub just lets the receiver know how much voltage to send in. It’s not a level. What’s the sound transmission loss from the spandex?
@KevisFilms9 күн бұрын
Thank you! Really looking forward to trying Dirac Live + bass control at some point in the next couple of months. I would have to go back and see my measurements, but honestly, from sound memory it feels like I sound transmission was really minimal. I did have to adjust my distance from speaker to screen, but after I did it sounded fantastic!
@wendellwendellb3399 күн бұрын
I don’t know why someone said you don’t need external amps. The Marantz Cinema 50 gives you 110 watts, 2 channels driven. You can get (if you so choose) an amp that will give you that wattage, all channels driven. Just something to consider.
@KevisFilms9 күн бұрын
Thank you!
@mfkhometheater77429 күн бұрын
The room is looking great! With those high efficiency speaker systems you don't really need more power. If you ever did add an external amplifier you wouldn't need to do more than the front three on the external amp. People tend to be obsessed with power not realizing that it's volume displacement that determines a speakers output, not the amplifier power capability. Near resonance it may take only a few watts to drive a woofer to its mechanical limits, it's the higher frequencies that demand more power for a woofer, not the low. There will be a frequency where the woofer can never reach the mechanical limit because it will fail due to exceeding thermal limits first. Driving speakers with high power heats the voice coil causing impedance changes and thus non linear distortion so having speakers that require less power is a good thing for more reasons than just not needing to add additional amplifiers. Great job on building your system, I expect it sounds pretty fantastic!
@KevisFilms9 күн бұрын
Thank you! My thoughts exactly on external amps. I have never turned my volume knob below -10 and still sounds super loud.

Trust me my friend, if you have PSA & Krix speakers then you need external amps. I would suggest at least a 7 channel amp. That will make a world of difference for your speakers. Of course they’ll be louder but it’s about channel separation and clarity no avr can do because they’re under powered

I fail to understand “generally” why some people like their sub woofers SO LOUD? Such as the fellow who operates “base brings us together”. I have my three budget subwoofers set at 3 or 4 on the loudness scale and find it quite acceptable: well balanced overall as part of the whole system. Any louder, and yes I can feel the effect in my seat or in my chest, but I find it rather distracting - let alone what it does to my “hearing”. Your ears can only take so much. Ok abuse them when you’re “young(er) but wait until you are older and where the effects of your obsession will emerge. Fair to say: I don’t think you will like such things as hearing aids etc.
