Got the brass/metal cups never had a issue then went to the r&d fuel rail setup like it better. 894,681 miles on her very reliable. Getting ready to rebuild it got a complete kit pistons rings main rod cam bearings freeze plugs oil pump timing gears new camshaft and alot of other new parts. New transmission new transfer case. So getting ready to tear down engine

holy shit. theres a guy recently who had a 7.3 ps with just under 800k befor the motor blew, this was after nitrous dyno runs propane injection turbo wheels. Never though the idis would last that long.

The proper way it to not use any ether just glow plugs & maybe a little wd40.

@@michaelbenoit248 that's correct. Even a small amount of it will do damage. Since it will flash expand the rings and once the expansion is done it shrinks and closes the piston ring gap.

Snoopy the ace, ether is a thing if ur in a pinch. A tiny squirt will get her goin if she’s got diesel hooked up. That engine seems to be decently healthy. Idles well, no-very little smoke. All idi’s have some blowby, its just something they all do. My idi didn’t have any until abt 3 months ago. I change her oil every 5K so not sure why it happened. I later used some fuel cleaner/atf, & it cleaned up w no blowby. Next fill up w diesel I’ve got a bottle of dieselKleen ima throw in the tank, or some atf.

I agree with the last post. The glow plug system was not reliable and after replacing the glow plugs twice, I went to ether. The engine need a little ether for the first start of the day, only. I put 225,000 miles on our used 6.9 .Our engine had several thousand hours of idle time because it was a oiler's service truck at one of the docks. These engines have such a rich sound.

Only needed ether for the morning once they got hot it would crank okay, Plugging it in was the better option.

On these idi’s if you crank em & goose the throttle she’ll run with no ether… Edit: a small amount of ether is needed to start an idi w no glow plugs.

it 6.9 idi and the 7.3 idi will move mountains and then some plus they get great MPG my 84 6.9 non turbo with C6 got 22 mpg

weezy Wednesday a real engine dont make 185 hp lol dude i take back the fat toung away,from having downs u already do lol. my 93 7.3 idi could hardly pull a 25 ft gooseneck. unloaded up a small hill. ps its only got 200k on it. so again dude go fuck your self. oh and show me a stock idi that will pull a tuned 6.0 or 6.6 back wards. ill wait......... my 01 24v will destroy ur chicken shit idi lol

No, just supply power to the shut down solenoid, and it will run. The IDI's were completely mechanical.

Farmallover you have to put power to one terminal on the pump and power to the starter and it runs
