Sounds like a fun project! Do you know what caused the blown head gasket? Did they have a wicked wheel in the turbo or to much boost?

Getting things lined up to do my 93 lariat ex cab, 4x4, body and trany, drive train great, which way would you go , long block, short block, total rebuild, now that you’re finished? Thanks
@T-MillProductions5 ай бұрын
Well it all depends on your budget man, I was strapped for cash when I got this engine originally, I personally would rebuild the engine from the ground up, that’s my plan for my engine once I get the bad one out. This is just a hack job rebuild so I can use my truck again. The actual rebuild I wanna do is with stock idi turbo rods and bottom end, and a big turbo kit and make a nice torque motor. But it all comes down to money lol

So this engine was supposed to be a temporary engine. I didn’t wanna spend a ton of money into it. The current engine in my truck is a real factor turbo idi so I wanna rebuild that one with all the best parts and have real turbo rods in it vs this one is from a non turbo idi

Any info on how to prime the engine with oil and coolant before starting my fresh rebuilt 7.3 idi?
@T-MillProductions2 жыл бұрын
So the way I do it is when the engine is in the truck I’ll pull the valve covers off and soak the heck out of everything in engine assembly lube and then put the valve covers back on and hen crank the motor for 15 seconds without starting it and that will get enough oil pressure to the entire engine. Also make sure your oil filter is full of oil when you spin it on. The best way to bleed the cooling system is to buy a tool called an Air Lift. Amazon has them. It pulls the empty cooling system down to a vacuum and then you close off a valve and put the other hose in the coolant container and the vacuum will suck the coolant into the motor making it 100 percent bleed if done correctly

I didn’t personally, but I bought that motor used but it had been completely rebuild years earlier by diesel builders or some place like that. I intended to do the short block to but it was so clean and in such good shape I chose not too. The crosshatches were still really good and the bottom end was all good so I just did everything else

Ya know I wasn’t sure which way to go, cause this motor was actually rebuilt by diesel builders a while ago and they used a gasket so I was like alright I’ll do it their way but I’m not a huge fan of cork gaskets. I guess we’ll see lol
@T-MillProductions2 жыл бұрын
That’s cool man, minus the metal in the intake part lol. Are you gonna rebuild the whole motor or just take the top end apart? It’s funny cause I actually only started this project as a regasket job back in 2020 when I got the motor. If you go way back in my videos you’ll see when I very first got it and it was covered in oil and I decided to start taking it apart and then it sat for 2 years lol

ARP studs are like 5-600 $ and this engine is a deisel which relies on compression but they have like 190 hp it’s not going to the races might as well buy the regular ones
@T-MillProductions2 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly why I bought just the head bolts because I didn’t wanna spend that kind of money in this particular motor. The next one that I build I will tho
@2ndspingarage2 жыл бұрын
That's false advertisement. Id be mad too, head boss generally shouldn't be reused, but if it's just a few. It will be okay unless this thing is getting boost.
@T-MillProductions2 жыл бұрын
So I ended up going and buying another “set” of head bolts so this way they’re all new. And it will be getting the stock ford turbo kit on it. It only boosts to 7 psi but that’s still enough to make it go boom without new head bolts
@2ndspingarage2 жыл бұрын
@@T-MillProductions I need to get head studs for mine. I don't plan on doing much to it for awhile other than a turbo. I got mine super lucky, only 66k on it when I got it. It sat in Missouri for 20 years doing nothing. No it's chilling in Sapulpa,Oklahoma and putting in work pulling a trailer.
