remove the drain plugs first so the oil doesnt hydrolock your motor, you can get the oil out by removing the plugs but its just an extra step that takes more time... for anyone intersted
@c3it3 жыл бұрын
I've seen that method on other videos and wondered why the removal of plugs was important. Now I know! The vid I watched explained the drain plugs being located between cylinder 2 & 4, 1&3, 6 & 8, 5 & 7 and you use an 1/8" Allen socket
@johndowe70033 жыл бұрын
@@c3it yup I'd take them out first , don't need to take out the glow plugs. That's how I did it on my injector swap. And you only need to remove one plug on each side. If you can get them both off that's better. Careful not to drop them into the holes in the head
@c3it3 жыл бұрын
@@johndowe7003 so, I'm only replacing injector #3 for now, should I just remove that plug (between #1 & #3), replace injector and call it good? also, when removing the plug, I take it that the oil from that cylinder will drain, correct?
@johndowe70033 жыл бұрын
@@c3it yes remove the plug before you pull the injector out, it will drain the head of oil. When you pull.your injector out it will still leak oil into your cylinder but not a lot. With your injector out, put a heavy towel over the hole and crank your motor over a few times to get the excess oil out of your cyl. It can hydrolock and fk.yer day up. Make sure you get that copper washer out the injector cup cause I made that mistake of double stacking washer and it wasted a lot of my time redoing it . Also make sure you take off the oil deflector first you will break it otherwise . When you seat the injector use a flat bladed ruler to make sure it's properly seated. Good luck man ,update me when ya get it done please. I have a video on my channel showing double stacked injectors

Run the truck to warm it up before removing injectors. Some are stubborn and stuck in the cups. Also..if rebuilding your own, do it one at a time, restarting the engine after each one. Saves the hassle of priming all at once…fries the electronics sometimes. We killed the idm on ours. Oh..take the oil deflectors off…they snap easy.

How long of a job is it to remove the injectors and replace orings. Just a guesstimate would be great. TIA

Depends on experience with these engines honestly. First time doing it takes a bit longer for obvious but I'd say somewhere around the 4-6 hour range completed. It's pretty easy just take your time and dont forget anything.

How to pull glow plugs on a 7.3
@AgentStackDiesel5 жыл бұрын
Risley....I need to ask..I'm a bit confused. Do you drain the oil out of the rail by opening the rail plug...or is it ok to just remove the glow plugs for each injector and bump the key a few times? Thanks in advance
@justinrisley84665 жыл бұрын
Take the glow plugs out set the valve covers on to oil doesnt spray everywhere and bump the key a couple times. If you drain from the oil rail plug it gets pours all down the from of the engine and makes a mess.

@justinrisley84665 жыл бұрын
I prefer just tapping the key a couple times. You cant drain the oil out of the oil rails for injectors. There is an anti drain valve. In order to do what your talking about I'd have to open the oil rail and vacuum the oil out. Or remove the plug at the end of the rails and have oil all over my engine. Install the injectors and remove the the glow plugs. Set valve covers back on. Turn the key to expell oil from cylinder. Valve covers keep oil from going everywhere. And when your done replace old glow plugs with new ones. What does the coolant have to do with anything? I dont think you understand how HEUI fuel systems work. The coolant system is never opened. If your getting coolant in your cylinders during this process you have a lifted or cracked injector cup. Or you have messed up royally.

Would help if your comment made sense. If this isn't the way you do it that's ok, there's so many different ways. Try not to he butthurt he doesn't do it your way. Cheer up big guy.

Justin, first time replacing injectors on a 2000 7.3 with 379,000. You mentioned changing injector cups. How do you get old ones out and install new ones? Another question, do you have to bleed fuel lines after new injectors installed? Thanks for the info
