Yeah the black one cranked for quite awhile, then just fired up without missing a beat, was out of the norm for that one that day. Thanks for commenting. I plan on adding many more videos soon of various chores on the ranch. As well as some shop work. Please like and subscribe.

Wow that's impressive, my '09 Duramax doesnt like to start in anything under about 15*. In fact, my old '99 Cummins was better in the cold. Even it wouldnt start in -29 tho... Haha

Got 2 of the 6.9s and neither of them start that easy lol then I got a 03 cummins but I love power strokes
@MacRobbSimpson7 жыл бұрын
Good glow plugs(+wiring and controller), good injectors, and a not-worn-out IP is key to having an IDI fire right up. Most IDIs I see have worn fuel systems(retarded timing = white/blue smoke, lower power and harder starting), as well as sketchy wiring and usually a dead glow plug or two.

Do you still have the idi or remember about what size tires are on it in this video? That’s a perfect size for it and I want the same for my 89
@AcesUpOffroad6 жыл бұрын
Yes I still have it, drive it almost every day. It has 37X12.50's in this video. I have since put on 35X12.50's and I like them better due to the gearing. The 37.12.50's rubbed a little on bumps/turning.
@imdabeast1006 жыл бұрын
awesome thank you! i was thinking about 35's but a lot of people said they'd be too snug but i had 31 or 32's on my 89 f250 2wd and they fit just fine
3 жыл бұрын
Wow. So you don’t leave the glow plugs on past the dash light going out right? Do you give them any ‘gas’ - 1/4 throttle or anything?
@AcesUpOffroad3 жыл бұрын
The 86 I hold throttle half way, single gp cycle. Both powerstrokes are one glow plug cycle, turn key right when light goes out.

You just added and extra 100k miles of wear and tear on that engine. Block heaters also get the oil warm so it can circulated better
@AcesUpOffroad4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Smith lmao, then it must have like 100,000,000 miles because it is NEVER plugged in.
@AcesUpOffroad4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Smith still driven every day btw, nice try though
@benr91723 жыл бұрын
He's also running 5W40 synthetic vs a 15W40 Dino which makes an unbelievably big difference. My 99 7.3 wouldn't start below 30 degrees with 15W40 Dino but it kicks right over with 5W40 in 0 degrees. Oil flow tests will show you that 5W40 at 0 degrees is just as thin as 15W40 with a block heater. There's a reason a lot of guys who don't have the capacity to run block heaters all the time run 5W40.
@coldrolledbearcrushing92644 жыл бұрын
How did you get that idi to start so easily?
@AcesUpOffroad4 жыл бұрын
Working glow plugs and very good batteries, and engine has good compression

@dcformee1238 жыл бұрын
Matt K Grid heater?
@mattk9708 жыл бұрын
Yes, Grid heater. Instead of using glow plugs that go down in the head and are a pain in the but to clean. The Cummins uses a grid heater in the intake, it is basically a coil of wires that heat up. It heats the intake air during a cold start and the engine starts. What is so much better is you can replace the heater in 10 mins if it goes bad. Lets see power stroke and duramax owners change 1 glow plug in 10 mins, much less 8.
