Ultra Power makes the best valve cover gasket for 7.3 ..... They made their valve cover gasket without a connector on the inside. Only on the outside. So you no longer have to worry about the connector coming loose or having to do the 25-cent mod. Also the wiring on/in their valve cover gaskets are compact-conductors w/ fiber woven thermal barrier & thermoplastic encased polyvinyl chloride insulation, much better than Dorman crap were the insulation is already cracked before installing (true story). .... personally I thought ultra power was a lower grade product, usually generic, but not their valve cover gaskets OMG!

Good job explaining the job man!! My 97 F350 7.3L is leaking from the rear of the valve cover (driver's side). So i'm gonna try to replace the gasket here in the next few weeks.

Sorry I did not cover the passenger side on this video. But that one is not too bad other than the angles for removing the cover once it has been unbolted.

You should put in the first comment DO NOT TAKE THE DOG HOUSE OFF THE VALVE COVER UNLESS ITS NECESSARY!!

Why not?

Honestly, I don’t think I made the above comment. I remember watching the video because I was redoing my valve cover gaskets/wiring but I am not nor was I when I watched this video an expert or even experienced enough to give advice like this. So …. I’m not sure how someone made a comment using my username but it appears they did ?

What was the symptom/indicator that something was wrong with the valve cover gasket?
@Tempsho2 жыл бұрын
If the connector under the valve covers becomes partially disconnected, typically one or more injectors and/or glow plugs stop working on that side of the engine. You'll have a real bad miss, or the truck might not run at all. It might throw code P1316 initially, and if you scan it further it would be P1294 (Drivers side) or P1293 (Passenger side) which is open circuit detected on the injectors.

There was a leak. The gasket has been replaced by a mechanic early on when I first got the truck and he over tightened the bolts so bad it warped the valve cover. So actually the gasket rubber sealing material was totally crushed in around all the bolts and the valve cover was no longer flat. It caused a leak down the side of the motor and dripped off the oil filter.

You can just leave the doghouse on the valve cover so you don't mess up those seals.
@easyeddystrees2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but when I first took this off that one bolt would not budge without a six point socket due to being over tightened in the extreme. So I got in the habit of removing the dog house. But you're right
@Bwanar12 жыл бұрын
Don't take your doghouse off. No reason to. It's not in the way of doing anything. If you do the O'rings are not normally re-usable so you'll need to get some in advance, if that's your plan.

What's the technical name for the dog house? Or do you know the part number to the orings

Every video skips the process and just talks about how they did it... 😢 just sucks watching long videos just to see hands pointing
@easyeddystrees8 ай бұрын
Yeah I know that makes the video far less helpful. But recording a video while doing a repair makes it twice as time consuming and I do these repairs to keep my fleet on the road so video is definitely second priority. You really need a camera man and they would have to get paid.
