Hi Dave. We spent three years at Rutland Water on a swing mooring. The bird poo problem on the boats there was epic. Thing we found to work - a foam football suspended from the boom in the cockpit. Maybe on a lugger suspended between the masts? CD's on lines worked but only if they were very near what they were protecting but the biggest game changer was flags especially if you can hang them horizontally so they flap over where you want to stop them, it deters the buggers from landing in the fist place. It used to take us half an hour to put all the deterents up but it was far preferable to the cr*p everywhere!

Hi Jeff. I think Lulu came from Rutland water. But wasn't moored there. I bought her from a chap who lived not more than 10 miles away. I shall have to take her back there one day. Yes I will be putting up some lines next week, I have a plan but I do like the football idea!! My fear is a nest being there and eggs or chick's onboard. I wouldn't know what to do.

Great adventure, Dave... Glad you didn't tip over...

Cheers Marc. Me too, although I had her heeling well more than I normally would, she does firm up and I never really felt close to capsizing. Testament to the Luggers stability!

grand effort Dave and not a coffee in sight, couldnt tell if the centreboard was down on the run or upwind as it certainly helps stability, also on tacking i always sheet in after and that sort of pumps the sail , the jib i keep on old side until i have just gone thru the tack as it pulls the bow around faster , sailed a cat too long old habits die hard , you never said the time but it was an enjoyable watch , hitting x you would have to do 2 penalty turns lol , a possible future project a self tacking jib ? or furling mizzen ?
@SailingWithDave10 ай бұрын
Haha, yes but as a fellow lugger sailer, I'm sure you didn't see that mess up around marker X!!! I usually have the centre board up about 1/4 to 1/3 even when beating. Old Mirror habit where the boat could trip over the centre board when tacking. I think it was such a manic sailninprobablu left it there on the reach!!
@Spud6310 ай бұрын
i didnt see mark x what mark x lol , yeah all the seagulls migrated from yours and daves boat over to Black Magic , 2024 i will rig something up , i think the mizzen mast in and a rope across will work @@SailingWithDave

Wow Dave what a test for the boat and the captain great I remember when 😧I went through that more then once white knuckles and all something u might want to try is tie your jib sheet ends together there much easier to find and grab. Great vid great fun 👍Roger

Many rhanks Roger. Yes thisebjib sheets are a pain. The cleats don't grab them so we'll either, so I need to try tying them. Worked well on the Mirror.

Dave, what shaft length is your epropulsion? I'm summoning up the courage to buy one for my lugger but can't seem to find an answer as to which one fits best.
@SailingWithDave10 ай бұрын
Hi there. I think it's long shaft but the shaft lengths work slightly differently on the epropulsion than the petrol outboards. If you can search the channel for that there's loads about this, but I will check for you when I get on my PC.
@disco90sherpa10 ай бұрын
@@SailingWithDave Thanks Dave, that's appreciated. I think that ties up with some of the few comments about them I can find elsewhere. I've noted that the shaft length convention is different to petrol equivalents (why?!) which doesn't really help and with the boat out of the water it'd be partly guess work if I measured it at the moment. Looking forward to the next video!

Hi Disco. Here's the conversation you need. See the comments under "GorgeousMusicUK" Seems its a short shaft. but on the same thread is a link to the Epropulsion guide to shaft lengths. On there you can see that the eproplusion lengths are a lot longer than the petrol outboards so you would need a shorter one than you think. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmaVZ5aQr7Jrfas

Well that blew the cobwebs away for sure. What was your time?
@SailingWithDave10 ай бұрын
Hi Knucker. Yes it's what we both needed after such a bad start to the season! I ended up going to the wrong marker, way further than the weather station!!! So the time was way over and null anyway. I don't think I recorded it in the end, but I do some more timed runs soon.
