Was running 100 yard zeros on my AK's, but wanted something a little tighter. Ended up coming across Savannah Arsenal website and they have a pretty good zeroing method for irons and red dots. I followed there instructions and it was pretty spot on for my application. Irons setting 2 "25" yard zero good for 1-300 and zeroed my red dot at 35 Yards point of aim no hold over or under good to 1-300 hits all withing torso pretty much my BZO like my 36 Yard AR zero. I played with my Strelok app before heading out to confirm and sure enough trajectories were all correct. Working with two 16 inch rifles with ultimak Rails.

@Strelok Stalker From my experiance with all the top mounts out there the Ultimak gives my Ak's the most solid and no fuss mounting point for my red dot while still being able to use my irons. Essentially I have my battle zero with both irons and red dot. The only one I haven't tried is the Zenitco B-33 and KOP. If you read my comment I explained my own verified battle zero that gives me the tightest point and shoot no hold over or under groups out to 300 yards using both irons and red dot mounted on the Ultimak based on the height over bore.

How would I setup 35 yard zero at 25 yards? My range is only 25 yards.
@johnny4713ify Жыл бұрын
@@GiggidySquad I'm assuming your mount is an Ultimak and your running 2 moa red dot no quick detach straight attachment to rail approx 2.25 height over bore from center of optic. Best estimate punched into app is aim red dot at center mark at 25 yards. Your groups should be around half an inch below that. If you zeroed your AK the Savannah Arsenal way at 24/25 yards depending on ammo you can set the irons to setting 1 and dim down your red dot for a more accurate placement then adjust the dot above the front sight post (absolute cowitness). At that point go ahead shoot your 25 yard target and you should be close, but adjust accordingly. The key is to tighten group as much as you can at that distance. This is a ruff dirty zero on a red dot, but should be accurate enough to 200 yards in a pinch. It's important to confirm at longer rage re-zero at 35 yards not meters if and when you can. I still had to make a click or two corrections at 50,100 satisfied with a 200 final adjustment. At 300 yards I did have to lolly pop the head to get center mass hits on Standard IPSC target. As long as your windage is center you can always aim a little higher at distance. BTW I ran a 100 yard zero on both my Arsenal SAM7 and Vepr FM47 and this 35 yard zero is a lot tighter no guessing laser flat you should be able to hit a 10inch round target with no guessing place dot in the center all the way to 200 yards and about 1 foot above it at 300 yards. I have access to BLM land so adjusting for wind holds L/R at distance is the only problem. REMEMBER the Savannah AK Method of zeroing your AK sight is set for meters not yards I did confirm my irons separate from my red dot. Hope this helps.

One of the best explanation of 7.62x39 Bullet drops on here. Clear and effective explanation. I am curious what setting was your rear sight on throught your testing? Thanks again for sharing.

Very interesting. Thank you for simplyfing this. Although with the ak I've shot, the total rise and drop is about 6-7 inches depending on the ammo. So, the Russian and American militaries zero it differently. The Russians on the 300 setting to maximize the usage of the battle zero, using the belt hold at 100 yards point of aim point of impact at 200, and a high (head hold over) shot for a center mass shot at 300. Wich makes the most sense to me. The American way zeros on the 200 setting, making it more precise (in my opinion) with the range settings. But the battle zero drops too much at 300. They concluded nobody is really going to shoot past 300 yards with an ak anyway. I also wanted to say that some aks rise and drop up to 9 inches. This presentation is very optimistic and useful, but I feel like it needed to be said, also point of impact changes when using different bullets. So zero with what you intend to use.

Very helpful info! Do you zero at 50 yards with the sight set to 1 or on the battle zero setting?
@gungnirstrategic5 ай бұрын
I typically zero it on the battle setting. But it doesn't matter which one you use.

30 yd zero has the best overall performance. Keeps everything +/- 3” out to 230 yards. And thats really all you can expect from using an AK, red dot, iron sights, or a standing position. Its not a precision rifle system. Quit zeroing like it is. Max Point Blank Range…. Look it up.

Why not elevate the rear sight?
@gungnirstrategic8 ай бұрын
Because you would have to sight it in at exactly 100M and furthermore that only works for 16" AKs
